Awful old lady or sassy & cute?

Thank you so much for all the comments on my other post. It’s helped me narrow down to Rosa, Louisa & Juliet. Rosa is possibly my favourite at the moment but I am slightly put off by all the Rose / Rosie / Isla-Rose etc. which when combined is several thousand ‘Rose’ types (I wouldn’t mind the popularity if all one name like Olivia for example).

However, a name I keep being drawn to & then going off again is Dorothy. Not hugely keen on Dot & Dolly so would use in full (appreciating kids do what they like when a little older).

Would love to know what you think?!

Rosa is a really lovely name. Dorothy is nice but prefer Rosa.

Penny4Thoughts · 06/06/2019 10:34

Thank you @Starrynights86 it’s a name thats not just pretty but so much history to it which I love. Maybe it is the one & just need to ignore all the other million variants Grin

I like Dorothy! With Dottie as a nickname :)

BazaarMum · 06/06/2019 10:37

I know a little Dottie (christened Dorothy) and she’s sassy and cute! I’m less keen on Dorothy in full, I have to admit.

Caspianberg · 06/06/2019 10:37

Dorothea?

Bluntness100 · 06/06/2019 10:40

Yeah I don't like Dorothy and wouldn't wish to be called it myself if I'm honest. She will be called dot or Dottie.

I do think Rose is a lovely name.

daisypond · 06/06/2019 10:40

I like Dorothy but I like Rosa more. I know what you mean about the history and weight of a name. I think the fact that there aren’t really nicknames for it makes it a plus point. (Still like Rose a bit more though!)

Penny4Thoughts · 06/06/2019 10:40

@Caspianberg that’s pretty - Thea is lovely

Rosa is beautiful - I would just choose what you like if you’re really keen.

However I do like Dorothy too - I don’t think of it as old-ladyish (Dorothy in Flambards and another one in Tenko were both young, strong characters so they are who I think of)

MarshaBradyo · 06/06/2019 10:41

Still old lady imo
Rosa is nicer

Teddybear45 · 06/06/2019 10:43

I knew a dorothy at school - her nickname was Oz or Potty Dotty depending on who was bullying her. She changed her name as soon as she got old enough!

Pinkvoid · 06/06/2019 10:43

Rosa is nice, I like the Rosa Parks link.
Juliet is ok.
Not a fan of Louisa, very 80s/early 90s.

Dorothy is a bit hit and miss. I quite like Dottie as a NN but Dorothy itself is too old lady.

Caspianberg · 06/06/2019 10:44

My great aunt was a Dorothy, she never had her own children, but she used to buy all the children in the family donuts on a Saturday morning. She was affectionately known by all the children as ' Dotty Donut'

GlossyTaco · 06/06/2019 10:45

Rosa is my favourite out of all of those. She'll be named after a brave and inspirational lady too.

Bluntness100 · 06/06/2019 10:46

Thea is nice too. Dorothea not so much for me.

Thea or Rose would be my picks and would be happy to be called either. I wouldn't wish to be called Dorothy, Dorothea, dot or dotty or any other form of it.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/06/2019 10:46

I really dislike Rosa.

Is very grumpy.

HoratioNightboy · 06/06/2019 10:51

I've always loved Dorothy, but like you I'm not keen on the ususal shortenings. I knew one years ago who was known as Dorrie and I thought that was much prettier than Dotty or Dolly.

I prefer to it your main three choices.

Mrsjayy · 06/06/2019 10:52

Somebody said Thea and i really like that I don't rate Dorothy because she would probably be shortened which you don't like stick with Rosa or Louisa I have a grown up Louise who was going to be Louisa which I changed my mind on last minute.

Littlepond · 06/06/2019 10:53

I love Dorothy or Dorothea.

mondaysaturday · 06/06/2019 11:04

I really like Dorothy and I think Dot is actually a pretty cute nickname for a kid.

BellMcEnd · 06/06/2019 11:08

I’m still Team Rosa but I quite like Dorothy not as much as Rosa I only know one and she is the loveliest person ever. Super kind, motherly and very funny. I prefer Dorothea though.

Still like Rosa best

newbiegreenfingers · 06/06/2019 11:10

Dorothy shortened to Dottie/Dot is mine first girl baby name choice! I love it in full too Smile

moonpiggle · 06/06/2019 11:13

Thea is so nice! I love it.

TransFannyUltrasound · 06/06/2019 11:15

I like Dorothy. Doro for short!

Fulltimemummy85 · 06/06/2019 12:07

I know 1 Rosie and 2 Rose's no others. The chances are you will choose a 'rare' name and there will be 2 others in her class.
