Boring or timeless

I love the names Hannah & Lucy but am aware they’ve been very popular for a very long time. Would this stop you using them?

I also like Rose & Rosa which feel a little more current in comparison.

If you’d avoid names that have been popular forever, what else do you think I’d like?

I have a Lucy & for all its supposed popularity she's the only one I have ever known (she'll be 18 this year).

But then I didn't worry about popularity with any of DC's names they just had to fit my criteria of:

Must be an actual name
Must be spelt correctly
Must suit a baby, toddler, child, teenager, grown adult & an old lady/man
& most importantly I had to love it.

DD's have what are considered popular names but they are classic names whereas DS has a unique name which isn't what could be considered a classic.

cakesandphotos · 26/05/2019 21:10

I know a little Lucy, I like it. I think Hannah was very popular 10/15 years ago but less so now

Divgirl2 · 26/05/2019 21:12

I wouldn't use Hannah because it feels quite dated now (I'm a way that Lucy doesn't). It wouldn't necessarily stop me using them but because they're such popular names and have been for so long, the chances of knowing someone with the name is huge.

You might also like Sara, Louise, Valerie, Emma, April. As far as I know these are all fairly classic names but none are currently top 100.

NorthernRunner · 26/05/2019 21:13

Hannah is nice but dull.
Lucy has a bit more spark, IMO.

I like Rose, not so fussed on Rosa

Mrsjayy · 26/05/2019 21:17

I think you should use a name you like My dd has 1 of your names she is in her 20s i personally know/knew 4 different age females oldest being in her 80s youngest is in primary school names are fine a bit boring because they are timeless imo.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 26/05/2019 21:18

From your list my favourite is Rose. It is a name that suits all ages - I know several, ages ranging from 60 down to pre-school age and it 'fits'all of them. I agree Hannah seems to have fallen out of favour a bit - not many are coming into the school where I work compared with a few years ago.

LoveB · 26/05/2019 21:20

Hannah is such a classic (and classy) name. I love Hannah and Rose.

Mollie85 · 26/05/2019 21:33

Lucy Rosa or Lucy Rose is gorgeous

EllenRachel · 26/05/2019 21:33

I really love the name Hannah and also Rose. I think Lucy and Rosa are also very nice.

Teddybearhunter · 26/05/2019 22:05

Thank you all
@whiskeysourpuss I feel very similarly except I don’t really love any name which is problematic!

@northernrunner I thought that about Lucy too!

Boring or timeless depends on your taste in names, I much prefer Hannah / Lucy to fashionable names that I think will date really obviously. I've got a Sophie and there's several everywhere you look which I thought I would mind but actually it doesn't matter and at least it's always spelt and pronounced correctly!

pineapplebryanbrown · 26/05/2019 22:16

I'm feeling the love for plain and classical names atm. Jane, Mary, Anne, Catherine, Sarah.

Shadow1234 · 26/05/2019 23:07

Rosa is beautiful
Hannah would be my second choice

Teddybearhunter · 27/05/2019 08:33

Thanks all - you’ve reassured me. Although I’m going to keep searching for a name I love.

I think they are both beautiful classic names.

I know one of each (Lucy is 4 and Hannah is 2)

SundayMorningSun · 27/05/2019 08:36

Both are nice names.

I don't agree with those saying Hannah is dated - in fact, in the city where I live it was the most popular girl's name last year. So I know a couple a new baby Hannahs.

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/05/2019 08:37

And if it matters I know 5 Ross's, (all under 2) and it seems to be every other baby girls middle name. I know 2 Rosa's also (3 and 1)

TatianaLarina · 27/05/2019 08:37

I like Rosa.

Prefer Lucia (Italian pronunciation) to Lucy - which now sounds dated.

Hannah’s ok but I know so many.

Thequaffle · 27/05/2019 08:41

They are gorgeous names!

daisypond · 27/05/2019 08:46

I much prefer Anna to Hannah. I actually don’t consider Hannah a classic name and it feels dated to me. I know a lot in their 20s. I like Lucy and Rose. I like Jane and Elizabeth and Catherine. I also like Marjorie a lot - an old classic name that I think should come back.

pineapplebryanbrown · 27/05/2019 08:55

I love Lucinda and I know a Luciana, also prefer Anna for fear I would punch anyone who dropped their Hs saying Hannah.

bridgetreilly · 27/05/2019 09:04

Lucy and Hannah are both sweet, not particularly dated names. They're not exciting, to me, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with them.

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 27/05/2019 09:08

Hannah and Lucy are dated and boring imo, but rose and Rosa are lovely

Nomintrude · 27/05/2019 09:13

What about Anna? It's a very pretty classic name and I don't think it's overused.
