Boring or timeless

I love the names Hannah & Lucy but am aware they’ve been very popular for a very long time. Would this stop you using them?

I also like Rose & Rosa which feel a little more current in comparison.

If you’d avoid names that have been popular forever, what else do you think I’d like?

I would have had a Lucy, if we'd had a girl. It's a lovely name that suits all ages. I've also always loved Hannah. Rose / Rosa also nice, but a bit more popular around here. Not a reason not to choose them, but I don't like them as much.

Teddybearhunter · 27/05/2019 09:27

Unfortunately Anna is taken by a family member otherwise I agree it’s lovely. A few names taken by family:
Anna
Eleanor
Emma
Elizabeth

Don't go with Hannah if there is an Anna in your familiy it is to close I know an Ellie and Ella from the same family and i think it is a bit odd. I would go for Lucy or Rose

peanutbutterismydownfall · 27/05/2019 09:40

I love names like this and find it really refreshing when I come across one amongst all of the trying to be different names.
Other options which I think fulfil this criteria are:
Kate
Jessica
Amy
Rebecca
Laura
Abigail
Sophie

Then there are the more classical ones like
Elizabeth
Katherine
Caroline
Charlotte

I think names like Claire, Louise, Sarah & Rachel are still too tied to a particular era and so are likely to have a massive surge in popularity again in a few years time.

pineapplebryanbrown · 27/05/2019 09:43

Oh I love Kate and Caroline, so classy. Is Rachel too Friends still?

Trills · 27/05/2019 09:43

I don't think any name is dull, really.

Having a perfectly normal name that everyone is familiar with and is unambiguous in its spelling can be quite nice and relaxing.

pineapplebryanbrown · 27/05/2019 09:45

On the Rose theme how about Rosemarie or Rosalind?

I also quite like Marie atm.

Mrsjayy · 27/05/2019 09:46

I agree with you Trills a nice ordinary relaxing name can be quite soothing Smile

Mrsjayy · 27/05/2019 09:49

I don't think Rachel is too friends but it isn't back yet iyswim Dd went to school with a millionlot of Rachels those Rachels are in their 20s Imo it willbe a few more years before it is back.

hellooosweetheart · 27/05/2019 09:52

Both overused and boring

hellooosweetheart · 27/05/2019 09:53

Im a tad bias. I have a mate who is American and Hannah would be pronounced 'he yanna' 😡

Kanga83 · 27/05/2019 09:56

I love Hannah and Rosa (my girl was very nearly a Rosa). Lucy is lovely too, I think timeless is the best way and I don't think they seem dated in a way the trend of Scarlett, Amelia's, Olivia's, Lilly's are.

Kanga83 · 27/05/2019 09:59

Whiskeysourpuss, we had the same criteria. For my dd and ds they had to be proper names, no hyphen, not in the top 100, look good on a CV and suit a grown up. We went for classic sounding names.

OhTheRoses · 27/05/2019 10:01

I think they are nice, simple names. I think Hannah is more classic than Lucy by virtue of it being a biblical name. My dd is 21 and there was always a Hannah, Lucy and Rose. Lovely. There were Hannah and Lucy when I was at school too but not Rose, occasionally a Rosemary. Alongside the many Debbies, Susans, Janes and Helens.

floraloctopus · 27/05/2019 10:01

Hannah is quite dated, the ones I know are both in their 30s. Lucy is a bit twee.

BertrandRussell · 27/05/2019 10:03

Has anyone in the history of the world ever been told someone’s name and thought “that’s a bit boring”?

And being very popular for a long time usually means that it’s a nice name.

PS. Rose is my favourite.

Vanannabananna · 27/05/2019 10:04

Lovely names. Hannah was my second choice but we went with Kate. We also like Sophie, verity and Isabelle.

Reachbackforthechair · 27/05/2019 10:05

They’re very dull IMO
I know of 3 Hannahs and 3 Lucys through DD who is 19

PerfectPeony2 · 27/05/2019 10:06

Lucy Rose -
Absolutely love it.

I went for a popular classic name, although I’m yet to meet another baby with the same as most people don’t actually choose classic names anymore!

Fulltimemummy85 · 27/05/2019 10:38

Love both, Lucy is the top of my list and my dd's (6) favourite name. She asked if she could change hef name to Lucy 🤣

Teddybearhunter · 27/05/2019 10:48

@Vanannabananna I like Verity a lot but my husband says no
@Mrsjayy Anna is a relative we see very rarely - maybe around Christmas & that’s all so I’m not too worried about how close the name is.

I’m really warming to Rose & Rosa

Mrsjayy · 27/05/2019 11:07

Ah right if you don't see Anna often then fair enough. Rose is lovely she might get Rosie though would yoube ok with that?

Vanannabananna · 27/05/2019 11:36

I didn’t give my husband a choice on girls names 😂. He did name our son though ( I was in deep Pnd and would’ve left him nameless so told him to choose. He chose a lovely one though that I liked). Luckily he liked all of our choices for girls so wasn’t a big issue.

Reachbackforthechair · 27/05/2019 15:59

Love Rose

Clubbercised · 27/05/2019 18:30

Love Rose! I think Rosa is having a bit of a moment, so it may date a little.

Lucy is nice too. I'm not keen on Hannah. Purely because I don't like the sound. It's a bit honk-y somehow to my ear. But it really isn't a clanger. I know loads of them and don't bat an eyelid. It just isn't my favourite.

Anna is lovely, but I know you can't use it.

Love suggestions of Laura and Rebecca too.
