DP and I are compiling our list and both have Naomi but pronounce differently.

Is it 'Nigh-oh-mi' or 'neigh-oh-mi'?

Or are we both wrong Grin

I've only ever heard Americans say neigh, I've only ever heard it pronounced nigh

EllenRachel · 26/05/2019 08:55

I'd say it nay-uh-me unless corrected. I have head it with the emphasis on nay-OH-me but I wouldn't automatically say it that way.

LoafofSellotape · 26/05/2019 08:58

Nay oh me

I really dislike Nay OH me

South East

icannotremember · 26/05/2019 08:59

Nay oh me

tabulahrasa · 26/05/2019 09:02

Nigh omi - I’m from Scotland.

Tbh I though nay omi was the American pronunciation.

Mum2OneTeen · 26/05/2019 09:03

Nay-Oh-Mee

paintwater · 26/05/2019 09:03

I say nay-oh-me but have heard both. I’ve also met people who insist on pronouncing it No-Amy, and one Naomi who renamed herself Nayhomie...

ThedementedPenguin · 26/05/2019 09:04

I have a Naomi and I use both versions. Now that I’m trying to think about it I can’t workout which one I actually use. I’ll comment back when I’ve worked it out

RaffertyFair · 26/05/2019 09:07

I read it as Nayohmee but have come across both pronounciations so wouldn't assume.

superram · 26/05/2019 09:09

I’d pronounce it ne oh me -northern. Don’t choose it.

Eh? Confused you dont know how you say your dd's name?

TurquoiseAndPurple · 26/05/2019 09:09

I've seen quite a few threads asking this. It's always a mixed response.

But since you asked, Nay-oh-mi.

MerlinsScarf · 26/05/2019 09:10

Neigh-OH-mi, but have heard NEIGH-ah-mi, Ni-OH-mi and NEIGH-oh-mi so think you have to be prepared to hear a lot of different pronunciations if you choose it! Every variant is lovely though.

MrsDrSpencerReid · 26/05/2019 09:13

Nay oh me - I’m Australian

Bwekfusth · 26/05/2019 09:14

Nigh.

Apileofballyhoo · 26/05/2019 09:15

Nah-omi, like it's spelled but with very little emphasis on the first syllable.

SpeedyBojangles · 26/05/2019 09:15

Neigh oh me

Rystall · 26/05/2019 09:16

It’s a really fabulous name and completely underused. I love it!

Nay oh mee here. Never, ever nigh. Nigh oh mee is a completely different name with a different spelling.
It’s actually a totally phonetical name so I can’t see how some people pronounce it nigh?

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/05/2019 09:18

Nay o me

namechangedforthis1980 · 26/05/2019 09:20

Up until a few years ago I would have pronounced it Nigh oh me - I grew up in the north where I think this was typical

Since living down south, and having met a few Naomi's, I have changed to Nay oh me - as that is how they all pronounce their name!

MummyNeedsSomeWine · 26/05/2019 09:20

Naomi - Nay-oh-mee
Niomi - Nye-oh-mee Smile

MaudebeGonne · 26/05/2019 09:22

Nay oh Mee. One of my friends has a little Naomi and it is a gorgeous name for a gorgeous girl.

AliasGrape · 26/05/2019 09:23

I’d automatically say it as ‘nigh’ as I knew a ‘nigh-oh-me’ in school.

However I’ve since met a ‘nay oh me’ so I’d try to hear the person/parent say the name and copy that!

PrincessWatermelon · 26/05/2019 09:24

Nay-uh-me. So the middle syllable is uh instead of oh.

RedSheep73 · 26/05/2019 09:25

nay o mee
