This is a name with great significance in my family so I would love to honour my DGrandmother by using it -
But what connotations does this name give to you? Is it too old fashioned? Or a beautiful classic?

I love it it's my late mothers name makes me feel close

Love Margaret and its meaning {"pearl"). Maggie is horrible.

Marguerite is a bit too French for me and Daisy only works as a nn for Marguerite, not for Margaret

Peregrina · 30/04/2019 17:12

It's my name and it went out of fashion sometime in the 1950s because it got totally overused - like Sarah did in the 1970s, so long before Mrs Thatcher, although she didn't help. Peggies are usually now 85 plus, 65-85 probably Maggie if anything (but I am not) and under 65 there is pretty much a dearth of them, unless it's a middle name, or someone not born in the UK. As for Daisy - none of the Margarets at school were ever known as Daisy.

I still really like the name Margaret even though it gets associated with the Milk Snatcher.

My DM has this name. She can’t stand it. ‘Where did they get this name from, eurgh’ has been said numerous times by her.

I know another Margaret, my age. She goes by her middle name as she hates it.

I’m not a fan, it’s quite hard sounding, and I really don’t like Maggie.

Hate it. Love Margot, hate Margaret.

Pearl is lovely.

dangerrabbit · 02/05/2019 22:58

Great, strong name.

Sparklysunflower · 03/05/2019 08:11

Maggi is a well known brand of seasoning: www.maggi.co.uk/

spreadingchestnuttree · 03/05/2019 08:32

Er, so what?! Confused

I don't think there's ever going to be confusion between a well known and very old name and a brand of seasoning.

GabrielleNelson · 03/05/2019 08:38

Interesting that so many people mention it's hard sounding. Is this because it's a female name? Do people have this problem with male names? The ongoing popularity of Jack, Jacob, Kayden, Caleb and so on suggest otherwise.

What's wrong with a woman or girl having a strong name?

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 08:39

Gorgeous.
