This is a name with great significance in my family so I would love to honour my DGrandmother by using it -
But what connotations does this name give to you? Is it too old fashioned? Or a beautiful classic?

Sick

limpbizkit · 27/04/2019 23:50

Do. Not. Do. It

Summersunshine2 · 28/04/2019 07:40

@Megan2018 thanks for the Daisy explanation. Lovely link.
I love Daisy too Smile

RuthW · 28/04/2019 09:05

Love it.

OhTheRoses · 28/04/2019 09:10

I loved Daisy for dd and tried to persuade dh with the Marguerite link. He wasn't having it.

Cornettoninja · 28/04/2019 09:23

I love Margaret because of family connections but only used it as a middle name for dd because my mother was another Margaret who openly disliked her name.

It’s a beautiful, strong name though and Maggie is a pretty nn. I met one at a playgroup the other day and commented to her mother how lovely it was.

EdWinchester · 28/04/2019 09:26

We have a duck called Margaret, so it's a jokey old lady name to me.

But I love Meg or Maggie.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/04/2019 09:26

Love the short forms, all of them. Daisy, Maggie, Meg, Peggy.

Shelbybear · 28/04/2019 11:10

I just think old lady when I hear it, sorry.

Kokeshi123 · 28/04/2019 13:10

I want to love it, but can't quite get over the Thatcher connotation.

Meg is a cute NN, however.

Eustasiavye · 28/04/2019 13:13

Definitely due a come back.

MikeUniformMike · 28/04/2019 16:59

I like it.

Hippopotas · 28/04/2019 18:26

Beautiful name

mathanxiety · 29/04/2019 02:24

I love it.

Also love Greta, Margalit, Marit - all are international variations of Margaret. Also the variant Margret.

ForkHandlesplease · 29/04/2019 03:56

It's my name I hate it! I use a shortened version.

EdWinchester · 29/04/2019 19:59

I jinxed myself commenting on this thread as my Margaret was hit by a car today! (One of our ducks)

MrsCobbit · 29/04/2019 20:02

What ForkHandlesplease said...

TatianaLarina · 29/04/2019 20:09

Dowdy, frumpy impossible to make cool and sexy.

Like Margot, but it’s very popular.

Like Magdalena.

MissParple · 29/04/2019 20:12

Did feathery Margaret survive, @EdWinchester?

MissParple · 29/04/2019 20:13

I think Margaret Lockwood was very sexy but she overcame the name Margaret rather than being enhanced by it.

Jamhandprints · 29/04/2019 20:30

@missmouse101

It's awful! 3 very hard sounding syllables.

How are you pronouncing it? Missmouse? I'd say MAH-gret. 2 gentle syllables.

I actually think it's lovely OP. Not keen on Maggie but I love Meg or Daisy.

sue51 · 29/04/2019 20:31

Lovely name.

EdWinchester · 29/04/2019 20:49

MissParple, sadly no. She took her devoted husband Cyril, with her too. They are both at rest in the brown wheelie bin.

mathanxiety · 30/04/2019 04:07

I don't think Ann Margret had to overcome her name.

Sorry to hear about your ducks, EdWinchester Sad.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/04/2019 08:42

It's not hard sounding in my accent, quite the opposite in fact.
