The do you like your name thread made me think of this question.

Name you liked for your unborn your other half vetoed for no good reason. So I mean fairly common names you liked you didn't get to use.

Mine is Allanah dh was on a mega no.

@museumum hah strangely enough all those are the names my husband vetoed too! We are also Scottish.

Since2016 · 25/04/2019 21:25

Orla. Both tomes. Happy with my names now but still... it’s a beautiful name...

Theclearing · 25/04/2019 21:28

I really, really wanted Hepzibah! Grin weirdly he hated it. I still think he was wrong!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/04/2019 21:28

Lily, but we had boys anyway...

Ohhellothereladyface · 25/04/2019 21:29

IWouldBeSuperb · 26/04/2019 04:00

AgnesNaismith · 26/04/2019 04:46

MrsBobDylan · 26/04/2019 07:20

Frank. However he vetoed ds2's name for ds1 but had a half hearted change of mind and agreed it. We announced his name and a week later DH said he didn't like it

MrsBobDylan · 26/04/2019 07:22

Soz presses send too soon.

...but now dh loves ds2 name. Can say what it is as it is very unusual. Often comes up on these boards as a suggestion tho.

MrsBobDylan · 26/04/2019 07:26

I often think it was always destined to be be ds2 name. It suits him and with only 2 letters (1 appears twice) it has been easy to learn for a child who goes to a special school and definitely CBA with reading and writing!!

KitNCaboodle · 26/04/2019 07:32

Xavier, Arthur and Teddy
Betsy (reminded him of Betty Swollocks)

I vetoed Imogen

SamStephens · 26/04/2019 07:32

Every girls name I came out with (Parker, Harper, Hannah, Arizona, etc) but it was because the second we knew our first was a girl he just had a name in his head and he so staunchly stuck to it from 10wks in that I let him have it.

I did the same the second I knew we were having a boy, and he didn’t put up much of a fight.

Baby 3 on the way and we aren’t even at the stage of discussing yet, but I think we’ve got a pretty clear winner on either side of boy/girl now that it’ll be easy.

ItsAllGone19 · 26/04/2019 07:39

Poppy & Elin he hated both of those girls names for no reason. He vetoed none of my boy names but I had to veto loads of his names...
Leia
Luke
Zeus
Chip
...were the most memorable. I played my only power card of us being unmarried at the time of birth for both our children, so my veto held a lot more sway.

BillywigSting · 26/04/2019 07:43

Joshua for a boy

Rose for a girl

To be fair to him though he did have reasons for both, but imo 'I don't like it' is a good enough reason to veto a name

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/04/2019 19:47

I loved Lola but DH couldn't get 'charlie and lola' out of his head

Maybe I'm just old, but it would be the subject of the song by The Kinks that would instantly put the kibosh on that one for me.

Dualta

I've never heard of that name - just makes me think of a toaster, though.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/04/2019 19:50

I really liked the name Zipporah, Zippy for short, but that was instantly turned down.

I suppose, in hindsight, people of our generation would constantly be thinking they were the first to ask 'hilariously' where George, Geoffrey and Bungle were. We had a boy, though, so it was irrelevant in the end anyway.

tdam · 29/04/2019 12:49

I would do anything to use Olive for our daughter due in a few months but it was vetoed. He doesn't like any names that are things. So others that I like like Violet and Iris are out too. I also adore Margot/Margaux but he said it makes him think of 'maggot' Sad

I do love the two names it's down to though so it's not all bad!

ABitOTT · 29/04/2019 19:56

Dougal - not for a human child but the dog's name I loved. Was banned from having this but with hindsight my dog doesn't look like a Dougal
