OK-my last attempt to offer a “new” baby name did not go down well, but I’m sure you’ll like this one....

..Ds’s mates are round for band practice- and the new drummer is..Ivo.

There you go. Simple, classic, easy to say and spell. You can thank me later.

Prefer Clive 🤣

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/04/2019 15:53

Is that his full name?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/04/2019 15:53

Not short for Ivan or Ivor?

BertrandRussell · 16/04/2019 15:59

Just checked-no, just Ivo. “Old French-my parents are a bit poncy”

I think it's a great name. One of the twins in "Child of our Time" - the Robert Winston programme was called Ivo. I always felt a bit sorry for the other twin being called Alex - which is a lovely name but seemed a bit mundane next to Ivo.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 16/04/2019 16:08

Isn't there a stand up comedian named Ivo? Quite post IIRC.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 16/04/2019 16:11

Yes, Ivo Graham, Old Etonian. If only seen him a few times on TV and found him quite funny.

TulipFever · 16/04/2019 16:15

It reminds me of that Dutch experimental theatre director Ivo Van Hove. Which is not a bad thing.

The modern French version would be Yves, and the English Ivor.

Tiramisu1 · 16/04/2019 16:56

Love Ivo!

Calixtine · 16/04/2019 17:05

I love it! Was on our list for DS, actually, but sounds rather silly with our surname sadly.

Calixtine · 16/04/2019 17:06

Does he pronounce it eevo or eyevo?

BertrandRussell · 16/04/2019 17:19

Eye-vo

We considered Ivo. Old English from what I saw. We decided against it because we thought people would always say Ivor out of confusion!

Whodafeck · 16/04/2019 17:22

That’s a lovely name.

Danglingmod · 16/04/2019 17:24

Great name. And, yes, reminds me of the Scottish twins on Child Of Our Time.

BobBobBobbingAlong · 16/04/2019 17:28

I like it. My husband didn't.

Roomba · 16/04/2019 17:36

I like it too and immediately thought of the boy from Child of Our Time.

Greensleeves · 16/04/2019 17:37

Really cool name. I always thought it was Welsh, though

LittleMissMummaBear · 16/04/2019 17:41

Oh...it's not quite to my tastes! Seems a bit 'out-there' for me, although I'm sure an Ivo would make a cute baby. x

Aozora13 · 16/04/2019 17:42

Ooh yes, love it!

confusedandemployed · 16/04/2019 17:42

Definitely not Welsh. No V in Welsh.

Love his explanation!

Isitme13 · 16/04/2019 17:43

Have you really never heard the name before? How bizarre.

Ivo is cute - was on my list for ds but was vetoed by exH.

MikeUniformMike · 16/04/2019 17:45

Prefer Clive.

BentNeckLady · 16/04/2019 17:46

I’ve never heard it before but love it!

RustyBear · 16/04/2019 17:46

There's a character in the Brother Cadfael book Saint Peter's Fair called Ivo Corbiere, he's a minor nobleman, presumably Norman, so the Old French explanation seems likely.
