OK-my last attempt to offer a “new” baby name did not go down well, but I’m sure you’ll like this one....

..Ds’s mates are round for band practice- and the new drummer is..Ivo.

There you go. Simple, classic, easy to say and spell. You can thank me later.

The Ivo I know is Eevo, but some say it as Eye-vo.

PlatypusLeague · 16/04/2019 18:58

I quite like Ivo.

BertrandRussell · 16/04/2019 18:59

Ivo’s gone home now, after coming to find me to say thank you and shake hands. My heart!

I love Ivo Graham! He's made me love the name 😀

UtterlyDesperate · 16/04/2019 19:00

Very Etonian. And Norman, iirc - seem to think it was popular amongst William the Bastard's knights.

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 16/04/2019 19:04

Not easy to pronounce, I’d say it ee vo but some would say eye vo.

OwlBeThere · 16/04/2019 20:21

It would be Ifor in welsh. My Grandad’s name. I quite like Ivo, feels similar to Asa which I also really like. Short male names are my favourite it seems.

Jimjamjooney · 16/04/2019 20:22

I knoww a Portuguese man called Ivo (pretty sure he pronounced it ee'voh).

NameChange30 · 16/04/2019 20:25

I know of an Ivo (pronounced Eye-vo) and I've always thought it's a great name.

It was on my long list for DS but ruled out because it doesn't work brilliantly in DH's language and DH didn't like it.

NameChange30 · 16/04/2019 20:26

I expect it's pronounced Ee-vo in all the Romance languages. It is in French.

SouthwarkSkaters · 16/04/2019 20:28

Yes, it’s pronounced ee-vo in Portuguese. I had a maths teacher called Iva once... ~ misses the point of the thread ~

PinkieTuscadero · 16/04/2019 20:31

Yes I like Ivo but I'd wonder if I'd sound a bit wannabe posh if I was hollering it (in an evah so refined manner) across the park.

FoxBaseBeta · 16/04/2019 20:35

DS has a Polish friend called Ivo, (pronounced ee-vo) so I'd assumed it was Polish.

Jingz · 16/04/2019 20:35

I kept spotting these teenage twin boys who looked familiar to me in my neighbourhood, but I couldn't place them. Clicked one day that they were Alex and Ivo from Child of Our Time.

Harebel · 16/04/2019 20:38

Looks like they forgot the R in Ivor Confused

Calixtine · 16/04/2019 20:40

I have met a little “ee-vo” but I like it best as “eye-vo”

Thrupennybrit · 16/04/2019 20:49

I like it but first assumption would be an Australian Ivor.

bridgetreilly · 16/04/2019 21:58

I know one, but he's German. And I've definitely seen it in mediaeval-set novels and so on. I think it's cool.

AyahuascaTrip · 16/04/2019 22:23

I have an ancestor called Ivo Francisco Something Taco, such a perfect name.

MsTSwift · 16/04/2019 22:28

Not sure it’s new. The name of dd2 arch rival at school both 10

AyahuascaTrip · 16/04/2019 22:30

It’s definitely not new! ‘My’ Ivo was born around 1700.

BaronessBomburst · 16/04/2019 22:31

The salesman in our local bathroom/ kitchen shop is called Ivo.

PinkieTuscadero · 16/04/2019 22:34

I think the 'new' indicates that the OP knows it's not new. She means a new one for her to suggest. I think the last 'new' name she suggested was Geoffrey, or something equally Rover driving Dad.

AyahuascaTrip · 16/04/2019 22:35

Oh! “New”, I see!

BestIsWest · 16/04/2019 22:37

I just think ‘they’ve forgotten the R’. What wrong with Ivor?
