Zoe or Lucy

Hi
I can't get on board with the current appetite for vintage names(Ava, Martha, Mabel etc)
But I want something traditional and substantial a bit sparky?
What are your opinions on the names Lucy and Zoe?

I really don’t like either of them.
Lucy is so bland and I know too many.
At a push I’d say go with Zoe but I still think it’s a bit boring

hazandduck · 25/03/2019 09:15

Lucy isn’t sparky at all! Sorry, OP. Lucia is a bit more interesting.

I find Zoe really 90s. Zara is a nice sparky name?

Topofthehills · 25/03/2019 09:16

Both are nice enough, though I far prefer Zoe. I personally don't find Lucy very "substantial" if that's what you're after.

mummyhaschangedhername · 25/03/2019 09:17

I know a few of both, I have a daughter Lucy, I like it, seems to suit her. I am very traditional in my name choices though, if I had another girl she would probably be Emily or Alice. My boys all have very traditional names as does my husbands side of the family; together we have, Matthew, Thomas, Samuel, Daniel, Isaac, Jacob, Noah, Lucy and Rachel (not all my children). So Lucy works well in the mix I think.

Merrz · 25/03/2019 09:19

I love both! I think they are great names, Zoe is high up on our list for a girl, we can't have Lucy because it's my cousins name. I think Zoe is maybe a bit more unusual/unpopular so i'd go with that

herecome · 25/03/2019 09:21

See I hate the adding of the letter 'a' onto the end of the name so Lucia /Sophia but appreciate the feedback.
When you say you know lots of Lucy's do they tend to be young children?
This is my first baby so completely alien to me whats common.
I think I used the wrong word saying sparky maybyi mean snappy?

I like both, but Zoe just edges it for me.

AutumnGlitterBall · 25/03/2019 09:28

Zoe was my girl name if I had one (one boy and another on the way).

RuthW · 25/03/2019 09:31

No keen on either. Very old fashioned and dated.

Flamingosnbears · 25/03/2019 09:32

Nothing wrong with both those names op completely see you point with the current trend and I'm sure your LO will thank you when she's older

Lucy lovey classic name in its right a little more popular than Zoe though so if that's a concern bare it in mind Zoe is again a classic therefore both are timeless I wouldn't say you can pin to a particular decade really...

SallyWD · 25/03/2019 09:32

I think Zoe is more interesting and less common. Both nice.

Wallabyone · 25/03/2019 09:34

I like both a lot. I'm a teacher and neither have been particularly common or popular in my (large) school over the last ten years.

Chocmallows · 25/03/2019 09:34

I think Lucy is pretty.
Don't like Zoe at all.

FetchezLaVache · 25/03/2019 09:34

I really like both.

Cloudsurfer1 · 25/03/2019 09:36

I love Lucy!

MondeoFan · 25/03/2019 09:39

Lucy is very common, I work in early years and in last 5 years we have had 13 little Lucy's. I think it's a name that just "there" a bit like Sarah, it's not to like or dislike.
Zoe is a bit 1990. I think of Zoe Ball when o hear it

WitchesGlove · 25/03/2019 09:51

Lucy or Lucia, I like both

I don’t really like Zoe, Zara would be better

Netflixaddiction · 25/03/2019 09:59

Both names I would say are equal. Lucy is just slightly more classic. I agree Zoe is a little more 90s. If I had to pick I think I’d pick Lucy but only because I find z names a little harsh. But Zoe is rarer.

campion · 25/03/2019 10:04

Lucy.
Zoe is bland and too short.

Rickytickytembo · 25/03/2019 10:15

Lucy is gorgeous!

Peachbubble · 25/03/2019 10:34

I'd pick Lucy

herecome · 25/03/2019 10:42

Thanks everyone, I think both names are somewhat timeless, especially Lucy.
I'm leaning now to Lucy, partner wants ZoeGrin

TickleMeEmo · 25/03/2019 10:46

I like both names but they are also both my nieces names (ages 6 & 7) 😁

TenThousandSpoons · 25/03/2019 10:47

I like both. I think Zoe is a bit more sparky, Lucy more gentle. Both very pretty.

GoodJobShesCute · 25/03/2019 11:10

Lucy was one of the ones I wanted for my daughter but my partner vetoed it. I absolutely love it! Know of another child called Lucy but not yet met any babies with this name. I don't care about names being common or some people thinking they're boring. It's what feels right for you that's important. Zoe is nice too but I personally prefer Lucy.
