Connie or Madeline?

I think we’re down to final 2. (For now)
One is my favourite the other is DH’s. But we do like them both, we may end up putting them into a hat.
Which would you choose?

Connie! Gorgeous!

ilovecheese1 · 19/03/2019 12:55

Bad start for me Grin

I prefer Madeleine.

ApplestheHare · 19/03/2019 12:58

Madeline is much nicer, gorgeous.

chewbacca83 · 19/03/2019 13:00

I used to love Madeline but all I think of is Madeline Mcann now sorry. I love Connie though and it was on my list.

mrsdavys · 19/03/2019 13:00

Madeline 100%

Igottastartthinkingbee · 19/03/2019 13:00

Connie every time. Madeleine just makes me think of Madeleine McCann sorry Sad.

Chocmallows · 19/03/2019 13:01

Madeleine, with 3 'e's. Maddie for short.

daisypond · 19/03/2019 13:02

Not keen on Connie, but Constance is nice. I prefer Madeleine to Madeline. Madeleine is great.. How would your pronounce Madeline? A "line" sound at the end or an "een" or "in" sound? I'd assume "line".

ilovecheese1 · 19/03/2019 13:09

Yes ‘line’ @daisypond! Appreciate the madeleine McCann connection (poor girl) Sad but we feel it’s such a beautiful name that we can’t rule it out for that reason.

OP posts:
mrsdavys · 19/03/2019 13:11

I don’t get why the Madeleine McCann connection would ever be an issue. She’s a missing girl, not a murderer. If you were wanting to name your girl Myra then I’d definitely say reconsider!

ilovecheese1 · 19/03/2019 13:16

I agree @mrsdavys I can only imagine some people might feel superstitious about it? If we chose it we would like to pronounce it ‘Mada-line’ as opposed to ‘mada-lynn’ but whether or not people will follow suit is another story 🤣

I love Madeline. I picture the Madeline from the film, a tiny but strong willed little girl who can do anything Grin

NewAndImprovedNorks · 19/03/2019 13:28

I love Connie...but then I know a completely wonderful 10 year old Connie, so I might be a bit biased.

ilovecheese1 · 19/03/2019 13:31

5 votes each! ConfusedGrin

Madeleine ( or Madeline) makes me think of either McCann (tragic) or M Bassett ( “the stars are God’s daisy chain,,” ) so that is a no.
I love Constance, but giving a child a pet name as their full name seems odd to me.

beanhunter · 19/03/2019 13:38

Madeleine is a beautiful name (and my daughters!). But I prefer our spelling to yours. She is now nearly 7 and loves her name.

ilovecheese1 · 19/03/2019 13:40

We aren’t keen on Constance, sounds a bit harsh for our taste. I agree with some nicknames but actually, i think Connie is a pretty good stand alone name.
@beanhunter tbh I’m inclined to agree with you, the reason for our spelling choice is because we would prefer it be pronounced ‘mada-line’ & think this spelling lends itself to that.

OP posts:
Nesssie · 19/03/2019 13:41

People will pronounce it Mada-lynn not Mada-line and just assume its a typo.
Madeleine, pronounce Mada-lynn is lovely, love the nickname Maddie.

ilovecheese1 · 19/03/2019 13:41

@beanhunter does she get Maddie a lot?

OP posts:
Orangeslemon24 · 19/03/2019 13:43

Connie is a terrible name

ilovecheese1 · 19/03/2019 13:43

I’ll add your vote for Madeline then @Orangeslemon24 🤣

OP posts:
beanhunter · 19/03/2019 13:44

@ilovecheese1 - intermittently. Although whenever asked what she wants to be called she chooses her full name so that’s what she is known as at school and all activities.

Orangeslemon24 · 19/03/2019 14:03

madeline is lovely! Very classy and strong. Connie doesn't sound nice and is a bit wet.

Charley50 · 19/03/2019 14:12

Connie is lovely!
