Anyone know an Otis?

DS due in 4w and we still haven't chosen a name.

My criteria for a name is

*Unique (there were 3 of my name in my class at school, DH had 4 in his year at school and DD16 had 2 of her name in her class) - I would like to choose something that isn't widely used

*Doesn't end in "ie" or "y" - our surname ends with this and I find names with similar ending syllables are too sing songy

*Either short or I like the shortened version.

I really like Sebastian (Seb) but DH hates it ... he has suggested Otis instead. I'm not against it (and ticks all the boxes) but wondered if people with young kids had any Otis's in their class!!

Beautiful!

Tavannach · 12/03/2019 20:32

I like Otis. Prefer Sebastian tbh, but Otis is fine.

BlueDotty · 12/03/2019 20:35

DS has a friend called Otis. He's 11. Gorgeous name!

elephantoverthehill · 12/03/2019 20:37

We've got a lift at work, it's the only Otis I know.

Saffrona · 12/03/2019 20:37

I don’t like Otis. It always reminds me of that presenter from cbbc from my youth. I just see it as someone trying to find an alternative to the popular Oliver or Oscar.

I do however like Sebastian a lot.

Perhaps you may like Gabriel?

VenetiaHall · 12/03/2019 20:37

Yes I know one. He is a bit nuts but absolutely gorgeous and extremely sweet. His parents are lovely, very, very clever and multi-ethnic/nationality. I like it. Simple to say and spell but unusual and works across a lot of different languages.

Carolcool · 12/03/2019 20:38

I know a 1 year old Otis. Not keen on the name personally.

Marcipex · 12/03/2019 20:39

I don't know any, and only one Sebastian.

VenetiaHall · 12/03/2019 20:39

Suggestions

Benjamin (sounds a bit like Sebastian)
Thaddeus (unusual)

KendraKarr · 12/03/2019 20:39

Otis is good. I want to add Redding.

Or Otto, Leo, Oscar, Felix

ApolloandDaphne · 12/03/2019 20:39

I have only ever known one Otis. He wasn't very nice and ended up in
prison.

grincheux · 12/03/2019 20:40

I know two little boys called Otis, as well as the leading lad in the newish Netflix series Sex Ed.

999caffeineplease · 12/03/2019 20:42

Like Otis.

Also like Otto, Ivor.

Not a fan of Sebastian.

Ozziewozzie · 12/03/2019 20:43

I know an Otis.
It reminds me of a to character though. It's not a name I would pick. Seb is great.

BeGoodTanya · 12/03/2019 20:44

I know a north London Otis, who must be seven. He has an older brother called Ace.

Ozziewozzie · 12/03/2019 20:46

Luka

Littlefish · 12/03/2019 20:47

I know a 1 year old Otis.

Orangeday · 12/03/2019 20:48

I know an Otis very well. He is my favourite boy 😍

Ozziewozzie · 12/03/2019 20:49

Zeth ( nick cage in city of angels)

JiltedJohnsJulie · 12/03/2019 20:49

I know a 5yo Otis. I much prefer it to Sebastian.

DramaAlpaca · 12/03/2019 20:52

I quite like Otis & I've never met one. It's much better than Sebastian.

AuntMarch · 12/03/2019 20:57

One, he's 5 or 6.
I also know of Stan, Sid and Ned. All were unusual, don't know if they still are

MollyHuaCha · 12/03/2019 21:00

I like Otis and Sebastian equally. Both great names.

NinnieNouse · 12/03/2019 21:06

I know one, less than a year old. Really like Otis. Not keen on Seb but do like Bash

NChangeForNoReason · 12/03/2019 22:56

Thanks everyone!!! I'm definitely warming to it a little more Smile
