Anyone know an Otis?

DS due in 4w and we still haven't chosen a name.

My criteria for a name is

*Unique (there were 3 of my name in my class at school, DH had 4 in his year at school and DD16 had 2 of her name in her class) - I would like to choose something that isn't widely used

*Doesn't end in "ie" or "y" - our surname ends with this and I find names with similar ending syllables are too sing songy

*Either short or I like the shortened version.

I really like Sebastian (Seb) but DH hates it ... he has suggested Otis instead. I'm not against it (and ticks all the boxes) but wondered if people with young kids had any Otis's in their class!!

But I MUCH prefer Sebastian.

@Saffrona Hehe that was Ortis, I'll tell him you thought otherwise!

ooItsAoBeautifulDayNow · 13/03/2019 18:27

OP might not be to everyone's taste but on a similar line I absolutely LOVE the name Otto!

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/03/2019 19:56

The only Otis I know is a cat but I really like it. I know 6 Sebastian's who are 2 and under so I wouldn't say that meets your criteria

GraceMarks · 13/03/2019 20:46

I know a couple of Otises of toddler age so I don't think it's unique, if that's important to you. I'm afraid it makes me think of the ear drops you can get to dissolve your wax!

TheMalePerspective · 27/04/2019 10:32

I really like Otis. It's different without being weird or made up, and works for a child and an adult.

RaveOn · 27/04/2019 10:34

It's a fantastic name.

Icklepup · 27/04/2019 13:54

I love it and I've only ever known 1.

kiwiblue · 27/04/2019 13:56

My friend has a 2yo called Otis Smile I like the name.

barryfromclareisfit · 27/04/2019 13:59

I searched ‘my’ Otis due to this thread. He’s done a lot of bodybuilding. Wink

ketchupormayo · 27/04/2019 14:06

I know an Otis whose about 3 now. I like it!

MikeUniformMike · 27/04/2019 15:04

I know an adult Otis. I don't like the name.
I don't like Sebastian either but I know a few under ten-year olds withh the name.

janeybumtum · 27/04/2019 15:22

My friend has a baby called Otis, everyone says what a lovely name choice it is and I think it's nice.

Calixtine · 27/04/2019 18:55

I’ve only ever met one, and he was a sweet boy with very cool parents!

Sebastians are ten a penny round here. It’s a nice name though.

I vote Otis.

AnnieDianaLulu · 29/04/2019 18:58

I don't know any

Jayblue · 29/04/2019 19:02

I know of a teenaged Otis. He races ponies and seems like a nice lad.

I've known a few Seb/Sebastians over the years. All also nice people but if the two names I'd say it's definitely the less unusual

StillIRise87 · 29/04/2019 19:04

Loads of Sebastian's everywhere. If you use it there will be another in his class. Otis is fab!

takeasadsongandmakeitbetter · 29/04/2019 19:08

I love that!

livefornaps · 29/04/2019 19:10

The aardvark!!

nannyplummyarse · 29/04/2019 19:14

I don't know any and dd4 has none in her reception class.

Aldicheckoutworkout · 29/04/2019 19:15

I know of 1, hes very funny and about 8 years old. Sebastian is more well used - i know about 6 ages ranging from 2 to 50! My dd (12) had 3 sebastians in her class at primary.

Ohhellothereladyface · 29/04/2019 19:17

I like Otis! Think it’s really cute! Much prefer it to Sebastian.

PippilottaLongstocking · 29/04/2019 19:17

I love Otis! Although I went for Otto instead. I know a few boys called Otto now but none called Otis.

I also like Oren, Oisín, Ivor, Ivan

Lavendersquare · 29/04/2019 19:22

I know an Otis he's a bit of a handful but otherwise ok. Beware though his name has been shortened by his classmates (his mother hates it) to Otie which has firmly stuck.

Marvellow · 30/04/2019 09:26

I knew a young Otis several years ago. He would be in his mid-late teens now.
