Anyone know an Otis?

DS due in 4w and we still haven't chosen a name.

My criteria for a name is

*Unique (there were 3 of my name in my class at school, DH had 4 in his year at school and DD16 had 2 of her name in her class) - I would like to choose something that isn't widely used

*Doesn't end in "ie" or "y" - our surname ends with this and I find names with similar ending syllables are too sing songy

*Either short or I like the shortened version.

I really like Sebastian (Seb) but DH hates it ... he has suggested Otis instead. I'm not against it (and ticks all the boxes) but wondered if people with young kids had any Otis's in their class!!

It makes me think of the lift company! Sorry!

It comes up on here every so often and I always think how sad it would be for a child to be saddled with the name of a cool-as-snake-shit music legend.

I know an Otis who is early 20s, his brother is called Spike.

There's an Otis in a baby group I go to. I think he's about eight months old. He's really cute, and I like the name! Your criteria are similar to the ones DH and I had.

Incidentally the plural would be Otises (as opposed to Otis's).

I had an image of an Afro-Caribbean gentleman in my mind. Did a little google and there was a presenter called Otis Deley!

But now I remember Otis the ardvark too!

Yes a friend of mine has a 3 year old called Otis.

I know 1 aged 5.itsnit Common. He's the only one in my kids school. I work in a different school and there are no kids called Otis.

Oh please name your son Otis! Otis Otis Otis! I love it and if I ever have a son he will be Otis. I think it's gorgeous and unique without it being too 'out there'. Xx

Other than Otis Ferry/Otis Redding I don't know any but it's top of my list atm, I think it's cool and unusual though heard of. Sebastian is too fussy for me.

I have a son called Otis. Almost everyone who asks his name says “oh like Otis Redding?” apart from one guy who looked confused and said “what, like the lift?”

Love it. Makes me start singing sitting on the dock of the bay every time I hear it, and that's never a bad thing!!

There's an Otis in my baby group but only one I've come across in the various ones I go to.
