Or any other ch/sh sounding names. Or names that you'd prefer that are similar. Not Charlotte

A teenage girl named Cherry. Please don't do it.

BlueMerchant · 28/02/2019 11:38

Carla is beautiful
Love Cherry- I can't see it being a problem being a teen called Cherry in this day and age.
Georgia is ok- just prefer the other two.

At least spell it correctly or rather to match the pronunciation. Who the hell says Chan-tal. Its Chan-tell, is it

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/02/2019 11:41

Giselle sounds like a witches name to me.

ItsInTheSpoon · 28/02/2019 11:42

Sheila?

RiverTam · 28/02/2019 11:42

Aww my Iranian friend says Chantal - Shon-tahl. Not everyone is British or of British extraction shock horror.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 28/02/2019 11:45

Don’t use it if you think you’ll ever end up in Australia but otherwise there isn’t really any issue. Other names with a ‘sh’ Sound include:
Charlotte (can be a Lola is you don’t like Charlie as a nn)
Charline
Cheryl
Sheridan
Shasmin/Shasmina
Shannon
Siboan
Shelly
Sheila
Sinead

ColeHawlins · 28/02/2019 11:47

What's the issue with Chantal in Australia? Bogan connotations or something disgusting? Smile

Aquilla · 28/02/2019 11:55

Defo bogan connotations down under! It would be a bit like you having a baby and calling her Waynetta. We'll maybe not as bad but it is your 'go to' trashy name unfortunately.

ColeHawlins · 28/02/2019 11:58

Ah TY

It's definitely gradually getting the same reputation here. Shame really. In itself it is a nice name.

Chey ("Shay")

TatianaLarina · 28/02/2019 12:10

Chantal is pretty bad, sorry. In the same boat as Cheryl, Chantelle, Chardonnay etc

At least spell it correctly or rather to match the pronunciation. Who the hell says Chan-tal. Its Chan-tell

Gah! Chantal is an classic French name after a saint.

Chantelle is simply the low rent version popular in the U.K. I’ve never met a French Chantelle, it’s a lingerie brand there.

bsc · 28/02/2019 12:11

Isn't Chantelle a completely different name?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/02/2019 12:12

Chantal is a French name, Chantelle is an underwear brand.

bsc · 28/02/2019 12:13

Ah, x-post!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/02/2019 12:13

Chardonnay is a classic in the making.
