Or any other ch/sh sounding names. Or names that you'd prefer that are similar. Not Charlotte

I know an Iranian Chantal, Tal for short (I don't know what spelling she uses, though).

DuvetCaterpillar · 28/02/2019 10:14

What about Cherie? French, means 'darling', pronounced 'Sher-ee' - it's pretty.

SnowWhite33 · 28/02/2019 10:25

Chantal is pretty bad, sorry. In the same boat as Cheryl, Chantelle, Chardonnay etc Grin

Im not a big fan of 'sh' sound but how about Shelley?

Luckingfovely · 28/02/2019 10:26

Gosh, I never know before that I didn't like names that begin with a ch/ah sound! But I really can't bear any of the names in this thread, I think they're all awful!

Sorry - not helpful at all, I know, but I'm genuinely surprised!

But whatever you like, you should go with Smile

Strange how names - or perceptions of them - change.

Chantal (that spelling) was originally a surname. It became used as a first name in honour of a 17th cent French aristocratic woman who founded an order of nuns and was later made a saint.

Well I don't like any suggestions, apart from Cherry, but thank you anyway.

I might move away from ch/sh sounding names and just go for C names instead.

I also really like Georgann but I don't think it works as a name written down, but I like the sound and the capital G. So if you have any suggestions please?

Georgeann is quite harsh-sounding to my ear, and not really a name either - Georgina or Georgiana are names.

Geraldine?

Luckingfovely · 28/02/2019 11:08

Agree completely with @RiverTam - Georgann is terrible but her two other suggestions are beautiful.

Luckingfovely · 28/02/2019 11:08

Or Georgia?

KingHenrysCodpiece · 28/02/2019 11:09

Cherry is very nice. A very pretty nameSmile

How about Carla, Cherry, Georgia?

I still am holding onto Chantal and Georgeann for inspiration as I really like them but dont think they are usable.

Carla and Georgia are lovely, not so keen on Cherry.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 28/02/2019 11:21

Sîan/Shani? (A form of Jane, I think)

bsc · 28/02/2019 11:22

Chantal has a really negative image, but I just don't know why. It's actually a v pretty name (I use French pronunciation) Confused

Cherry is fantastic IMO, I really like it, but it clashed with our surname.

Not sure Georgeann works, but I really like Giorgiana.

What about Gia or Georgia?

Or Sian (it's pronounced Sharn)?
Or completely different... Cheyenne? (Pron. Shy-ann)

Shookethtothecore · 28/02/2019 11:23

I love cherry, I can’t use it as it sounds comical with our surname but if I had a different surname I would absolutely use it

ColeHawlins · 28/02/2019 11:24

(I know it's a 'G' but humour me Smile)

Ghislaine?

bsc · 28/02/2019 11:24

I know a lovely Shireen too.

I agree - it just went downmarket at some point, and never recovered, but it is fundamentally a pretty name.

Shookethtothecore · 28/02/2019 11:24

Gia? (Geeeah)

bsc · 28/02/2019 11:25

Or Giselle?

bsc · 28/02/2019 11:25

Or Genevieve (Gigi)?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 28/02/2019 11:26

Or Sinéad? Is the world ready for Sinéad to come back in vogue?

ColeHawlins · 28/02/2019 11:28

Giselle is really lovely.
