Scared that they'll use "my" baby name!

I moved to a new area about a year ago and one of my DDs is in Year 1 at the local school.

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and there are currently FIVE mums in the class who are also pregnant! They're all due before me, and our babies will all be in the same class for years. At least three of them are having a girl, like me.

DH and I have had our baby name picked out for a loooong time. I'm so worried one of these mums will use it! I'm not really friends with any of them except to say hello.

Aaagghh what would everyone else do if this happened?!

What’s the name OP (I promise not to use it!)

I kind of understand what you mean - I’ve had my (so far non existent) baby girls name picked out for years - I’m waiting for the moment that I get pregnant and a famous person /family member/good friend uses the name just before me!

BiddyPop · 27/02/2019 17:59

BTW we are just waiting for the day when DD is finally “Big X” rather than always the little one.

Surnames are often used, or X from sport1, or things like that, to differentiate them.

Cbeebiesrehab · 27/02/2019 17:59

Oh and I too had this worry! Messaged a friend who was due after me but was having twins so was going to be induced before me (she was having two girls and I was having a girl) just to get a feel over names. She told me she was using the name we had picked! I was devastated and angry (although I knew I had no right to be) so I told her that was the name we were using too and the story behind why we were using it. Funnily enough when her daughters were born she changed the ones name last minute (the one with the same name) I think telling her made her change her mind (and I was bloody glad I did!)

BirthdayKake · 27/02/2019 18:02

She's just always been this name... I knew she was going to be a girl; I could tell from the way my sickness was so bad, and I was right, and we just don't like anything else...

It's Effie.

Oh I don't like Effie. You can have that one. No need to thank me.Grin

CocoLoco87 · 27/02/2019 18:08

I get it! When we did NCT some of us knew the sex of our babies and no one else would share what they were calling theirs. We already had DS named after 20 week scan so I just came out and announced his name. I thought that way everyone has heard our choice so can't accuse us of copying. As it was, no one chose the same name as each other. But I understand the stress!

IsAStormApporaching · 27/02/2019 18:09

In my daughter's class there is 3 Sophies.
If is a name you both love go for it.

CocoLoco87 · 27/02/2019 18:09

Yes I want to know the name too OP! Grin

SoyDora · 27/02/2019 18:11

There’s an Effie in DD1’s class (reception). She’s the only one I know though.

BirthdayKake · 27/02/2019 18:13

Effie doesn't like you either Awwlookatmybabyspider xx

SoyDora I met one a few years ago; she was 3 then.

I would think it’s pretty rare unless you own one of these helloeffie.com

EssentialHummus · 27/02/2019 18:16

What they all said^. In my friendship group DD is Unusual Name and about a month later my loose friend announced the birth of Unusual Name 2 (with a nod to me when she announced). It’s totally fine - clearly we have the same taste in names, that’s all. And brilliantly if we ever have DD2 she’s likely to have the name of that friend’s older daughter, because that’s all we can agree on. I still can’t imagine her caring.

BirthdayKake · 27/02/2019 18:18

I don't Milton but I do need a decent iron!

Essential that's crazy! I want to be as laid back as that. Seriously! Maybe I should take Sertraline again, that stopped me caring about most things 😂

Gosh! What a commotion over nothing.

Use the name you want (tho it's unMNetty to say it, I'd doubt you'd be fighting many off with a stick as that's hardly a well-used name. It sound like a nickname or family name to me, but not my baby, not my issue!).

2, 3, 5, 8 years down the line, if you're like many, if not most of us, you will no longer have any connection to any of them.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/02/2019 18:18

You know you have to tell us the name right? Grin

Stop stressing, tell absolutely nobody —apart from us— and just relax.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/02/2019 18:19

Sorry x post. Don’t worry I doubt anyone will take your name!

ReaganSomerset · 27/02/2019 18:20

Just Effie or Euphemia, Effie for short?

You'd be very unlucky to have someone else pick either tbh- I think it's a fairly unpopular one. I quite liked the Hunger Games Effie though, so only have positive associations with the name.

BirthdayKake · 27/02/2019 18:22

Miljah my whole life is like that atm! The other day I cried because my new blinds were slightly wonky :(

Just Effie :) I haven't seen or read The Hunger Games actually!

BertrandRussell · 27/02/2019 18:23

There were only 134 Effies last year, so I think you’re pretty safe!

UrsulaPandress · 27/02/2019 18:23

Is it short for something?

I think you are probably safe b

Refilona · 27/02/2019 18:24

I’m actually worried about Harry and Meghan too! We’ll just have to get on with it, no one will put the two together after a couple of years.

user1471453601 · 27/02/2019 18:25

Yourscared? Really? 49 years ago when I was pregnant, I knew what my daughters name was ( before I knew she was a daughter, we didn't have so many scans in those days). I didn't even think about what other people would call their child. I wouldn't have cared If anyone has used the same name.

What's to care about? I had the same name as my best friend in junior school. So what?

lalafafa · 27/02/2019 18:26

Effing hell, think you're safe with that one. Its awful.
