Evangeline? Is it TOO much

My husband and I really like the name Evangeline and it is the first girls name we have both really loved this time round (due in a few months)

I am concerned that as a name it is just TOO flouncy- if you know what I mean? I am dreading telling our parents and getting the dredded eye roll or uncomfortable silence that could ensue.

I love how it sounds and the very wide variety of nicknames that can be used with it as well.

I'm not sure why I feel so self conscious of it as a name because DH and I really like it, maybe I am over thinking things?

Our DD1 is called Rose for context!

I like it, i would shorten it to Evie. congratulations OP! Flowers

I think it's gorgeous and I love the nickname potential too. If you and your husband love it, no one else's opinion matters. Don't tell your parents until you actually have the baby if you're worried about a negative reaction. At that point it's much harder for them to disapprove.

BluebellsareBlue · 08/02/2019 19:23

I absolutely love love love that name !! Do it!!

GlitterPixie · 08/02/2019 19:24

Love it

Joinourclub · 08/02/2019 19:24

Well I guess she wouldn’t be Evangeline all the time, she’d probably mostly be Evie. It is a big name, but it is a lot less frilly than a lot of other big names like Annabella or Ophelia.

inchoccyheaven · 08/02/2019 19:24

If I'd ever had a girl she would have been Evangeline or Evie for short. Love the name.

MsMustDoBetter · 08/02/2019 19:26

I do like it. But I know what you mean.

You can either shorten it or use it as middle name.

Vivi would be a lovely shortening for a child or adult.

CaptainPovey · 08/02/2019 19:26

I think it's fabulous and I never ever comment on names

Please use it

Definitely wait until the baby is here before you announce. It is much harder to say you don't like it when presented with a newborn baby.

It is a lovely name but be prepared to hear Evie everywhere, it is very very popular.

17caterpillars1mouse · 08/02/2019 19:26

It's a beautiful name. The only thing that puts me off is I would worry it would be shortened to Evie which is just so popular here

Fevertree · 08/02/2019 19:27

It's beautiful, not too much.

BartonHollow · 08/02/2019 19:28

Gorgeous

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 08/02/2019 19:29

Lovely name.

I know an Evangeline aged about 12 and she's known as Evie.

beeRB · 08/02/2019 19:29

Oh thank you everyone- it is great to hear such positive reactions!

I understand what you say about Evie- I know a couple too! But our preferred nickname's are Eva and Vivi but I love the huge variety it gives us and them as they grow up! (even Jelly Baby when they are still tiny Grin haha)

Lina could also be a nickname.

daisypond · 08/02/2019 19:50

I personally do think it's too flouncy Victoriana. And Evie would put me off as well, as I find that bland. Vivi is better, though. But if you and your DH both love it, there's nothing awful about it.

Bubastes · 08/02/2019 19:53

Too frilly for me. And a bit too religious. But lots of people love it.

IggyAce · 08/02/2019 19:57

Definitely use it, it’s my dd middle name. It could have been easily been her first name but when she was born we decided first name Evangeline suited her perfectly.

pineapplebryanbrown · 08/02/2019 20:03

Lovely, i would use Eve as a nn.

Romanmonkey · 08/02/2019 20:05

Absolutely beautiful name. I also like Genevieve, which I would class as similar.

emilybrontescorsett · 08/02/2019 20:09

I think it's gorgeous but I understand what you mean.
I much prefer it to Evie though.

Ribbonsonabox · 08/02/2019 20:13

No its lovely! Much more interesting than just Evie.

dontticklethetoad · 08/02/2019 20:17

We reeeeeeally wanted Evangeline for DD (although we didn't know she was a dd), but we hated all of the diminutives.
However, when she was born she didn't suit it at all and went with something else.
