Is Lisa too dated?

Bear with me here! In terms of name styles we like – short, ending in A, we like L names – we realised that if you ignore any attached meaning and just look at the name objectively, Lisa is really great!

Unfortunately most people do not just ignore the meaning/feelings attached to a name though, so... hmph. But is it too soon for Lisa to make a comeback? Bear in mind, it fell out of the top 100 in 1995, so there are very few people under 23 with the name, meaning that by the time my child is 5+, nobody under 30 (maybe even 35/40) will even see it as dated any more. It will just be a fairly unusual name to all those people.

What does mumsnet think? Grin

I agree that objectively, it’s a nice name!

TooTightJeans · 05/02/2019 23:55

I know a 6yo Lisa. Really like it actually!

jessstan2 · 05/02/2019 23:58

Very nice name. Comes from Elizabeth. Is also a dimunitive of Bethany. Go for it!

BartonHollow · 06/02/2019 00:00

I think it's due a comeback and she'll probably be the only one in her year Smile

DramaAlpaca · 06/02/2019 00:04

It's pretty. Dated, but pretty. I think you should start a trend & bring it back.

ncforbabynames · 06/02/2019 00:08

I think it's lovely.

bryjam · 06/02/2019 00:15

I'm in my 40's so had loads of Lisa friends growing up. I still really like it, it's not in the same dated category as Jennifer/Suzanne/Jacqueline/Karen/Nicola, definitely usable today.

confusedandcrazymother · 06/02/2019 01:19

Sorry, I will go against the grain and think it is definitely dated. There are many L names ending in A that have never been popular but is stable eg.
Lana, Lara, Lena, Lina, Lila, Lilia,

Some more popular ones;
Lola, Luna, Layla, Lydia, Louisa

These are nicer than lisa in my opinion.

confusedandcrazymother · 06/02/2019 01:20

*are stable

Butterflycookie · 06/02/2019 01:36

It’s a great name!

MrWolfknowsthetime · 06/02/2019 01:37

I like it

Graphista · 06/02/2019 01:43

"I'm in my 40's so had loads of Lisa friends growing up"

Same here. I like it, I don't think it's dated as badly as Sharon/Tracy/Janet/Janice/claire

Pretty name and not often shortened.

Bumblebeesmum · 06/02/2019 02:44

Yes it’s dated but it’s a pretty name & she’s likely to not encounter others

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 06/02/2019 02:49

You could try Lissa instead

Sessy19 · 06/02/2019 05:53

That it’s dated isn’t really my issue with it. I think it sounds ugly. I also knew a few Lisa’s growing up, they were all rude, chavvy and mean 😳

SparkiePolastri · 06/02/2019 05:56

It's not that it's dated for me either, but it lacks substance.

I think you can do better.

tammytoby · 06/02/2019 06:30

It's beautiful. The fact that's it's 'dated' or 'unfashionable' is a positive! It's not overused and interesting!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/02/2019 09:01

Yes its dated, but That's not a bad thing. Its a nice name

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/02/2019 09:49

I think it could be due a revival any time soon actually.

minglemoo · 06/02/2019 10:35

It's a classic I think.

ChinnyReckonn · 06/02/2019 10:45

I like Leesa too.

BegoniasAndPetunias25 · 06/02/2019 10:59

Leah?
Lola?
Layla?
Lila?
Lara?

All fit your specifications but are a bit more current.

Chrissmasjammies · 06/02/2019 11:02

If you like the name go for it. It's a lovely pretty name. I have a Fiona which is in the same bracket of names but 2 figs I did not give and I have no regret.

leccybill · 06/02/2019 11:03

Lyra and Lyla are nice. So is Layla in fact. Wow, there's loads of lovely L--a names, isn't there.

mrsnec · 06/02/2019 11:16

I have a 4 year old Melissa who gets called Lissa. There were lots of names on my list from that era. I like the fact that our dc's names are the same genre as ours.

I like Lisa too. I know a few around my age (41) and I've never met one I didn't like.
