Very not where. Silly phone!

I like it. I would put Philippa on the birth certificate and us Pippa as a nn. However, I know that's just personal preference. I always think it's good to give the child a long and shorter form so they can choose later on. Pippa is a nice name.

FlagFish · 26/01/2019 16:59

I like Pippa! I know two - one 13yo and one adult. And one dog

erja · 26/01/2019 17:00

Love it.

MumMumMum1 · 26/01/2019 17:14

I have a pippa so I’m biased, but we do get a lot of compliments on her name. You will have someone come along to tell you it means rude things in another country though (didn’t find out till after we’d named her but it doesn’t bother me & very few people seem to know, google it) I think Matilda & pippa are both lovely but yes - pippa is definitely less common!

TheseThingsAreFunAndFunIsGood · 26/01/2019 17:17

I love the name Pippa, a friend's DD is called Pippa as the tells name and Pip as the diminutive, don't see why it needs to be any longer of not essential... Also I personally don't like the name Philippa! How about Epiphany?!

Catrina1234 · 26/01/2019 17:20

I love it......go for it It's unusual - there's one at my grand-daughter's school and it's unusual. Classes will be full of Lillie,Poppies, Ellas, Islas etc

Hungrypuffin · 26/01/2019 17:20

Love it, would have been first choice for dd but doesn’t go with our surname (also begins with P). I would also put Philippa on the birth certificate.

cliffdiver · 26/01/2019 17:21

I love Pippa.

I would have Philippa on the birth certificate though.

Susannach · 26/01/2019 17:27

Love it!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/01/2019 17:27

Love it.

I’d also put Philippa on the bc.

Sunneye · 26/01/2019 17:56

Speaking as a Philippa/Pippa, please don’t.

I loathe the name. It’s hideous.

Sunneye · 26/01/2019 17:57

Matilda is gorgeous though - there’s a reason it’s quite popular. It’s because it’s a lovely name.

Philippa on the other hand...

whatamidoingwithmylife · 26/01/2019 17:59

This made me chuckle as my partner complains about this name a lot. His brother & SIL named their kid Pippa and it irritates him that people will always assume she's Philippa which has been shortened to Pippa. In his opinion they should have used Pippa only as a nickname and let her choose herself later which she prefers.

heartoftheocean · 26/01/2019 18:07

Just to clarify..... we do not like longer names shortened. My opinion is if you are going to call your child a name then thats the name on their birth certificate. So we would not use Philippa.

Thank you everyone so far! Such positive feedback!

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 26/01/2019 18:59

It means vagina in Polish.
I think Peppa pig would put me off more, though.
If these don't bother you and you love it, use it!

heartoftheocean · 26/01/2019 19:12

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup Can I just ask the relevance of Peppa Pig? Im not asking to call my daughter Peppa. Its Pippa.

I love Pippa, it was on our short list. :) Go for it OP!

TheseThingsAreFunAndFunIsGood · 26/01/2019 19:21

Peppa is Pippa in kiwi! 😂😂

Ahh that’s made me feel gutted! I really hope my pippa doesn’t feel this way. She’s just a pippa!

tammytoby · 26/01/2019 19:38

I don't like it. Pippa is also very close to Pippi, wee in German!

whiteroseredrose · 26/01/2019 22:11

I really like it. Have known a couple of lovely Pippas

Ngaio2 · 26/01/2019 22:48

I knew a Pippa ( full name) who was a lovely young girl. The name has a timeless quality about it— yet modern and unpretentious

SemperIdem · 26/01/2019 23:07

Pippa does not travel well and means something rude in most European countries. I wouldn’t put it as the given name, really I wouldn’t.
