Imogen Bryher

Whyislarryhappy · 18/01/2019 09:48

Imogen Alba

RiverTam · 18/01/2019 09:50

Romily Rose or Romily Elizabeth

is Bryher an alternative spelling of Briar?

erja · 18/01/2019 09:50

Imogen Alba

KirstieandPhil · 18/01/2019 09:50

I'd go for Romilly Alba as I love both of those names (prefer Romilly spelling)

WhatASmashingBlouse · 18/01/2019 09:50

Ottilie Alba or Imogen Alba

MadeInCornwallx3 · 18/01/2019 09:53

@KirstieandPhil
I love Romilly Alba but our surname starts with. 't' so that's out...

@RiverTam Bryher is a Cornish/Scillonian spelling (we are Cornish Smile)

You're either a fan of between-the-wars modernist fiction or the Scilly Isles, OP? I like Bryher, but that's because I like Bryher's work -- to be honest, it never occurred to me that people would perceive it or pronounce it as 'Briar', which I like far less. Hmm.

In the interests of narrowing down, I'd take out Ottilie, which sounds off in many or most English accents, and is a bit -- frilly, anyway.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 18/01/2019 09:56

Romily Rose or Romily Elizabeth

RiverTam · 18/01/2019 09:57

OK - I didn't know that! I don't really like the 'look' of Bryher, I must say, but I can see why you'd like to use it. What other Cornish girls names are there? Morwenna is pretty

RiverTam · 18/01/2019 09:58

Parthenope that was a guess on my part, having never come across the name before - how is it pronounced?

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 18/01/2019 10:00

Beautiful names! Any one would be lovely so don’t worry too much. Put them all in a hat and pull out one by one. If you feel ‘disappointed’ by the one you’ve chosen- it’s not the one! xx

MadeInCornwallx3 · 18/01/2019 10:13

Thank you @TheLovelyOtherDinosaur

Bryher would be pronounced the same as Briar.

Down here it would be really obvious because of the island but maybe not in other places. Hmmm.

Lowenna which is on there is Cornish for joy.

Romilly Rose or Bryher Elizabeth.

Shadow1234 · 18/01/2019 10:40

Imogen or Romilly are both lovely

FlagFish · 18/01/2019 10:41

Imogen Alba is my fave.

YahBasic · 18/01/2019 10:50

the combination I like most is Ottilie Bryher.

Phebes · 18/01/2019 11:13

Love Bryher! Bryher Clementine or Romilly Bryher.

Icklepup · 18/01/2019 11:15

Ottilie Elizabeth

Giraffetower · 18/01/2019 11:22

If you love Romily Alba, just give her another middle name, so that initials don't spell BAT?

Romily Alba Elizabeth T

I like all of your names but I love the meaning of Lowenna so I think you should use that!

Astronica · 18/01/2019 11:44

I really dislike Ottilie, which just makes me think otter and utterly.

All the other firsts are really quite lovely and hard to choose between. I love Romily Bryher, Imogen Bryer and Bryher Clementine. These are all fabulous combos and I really struggle to pick a favourite. I'm not keen on Rose or Elizabeth with such beautiful and interesting first names as they seem to be default middles. Alba is good in the middle too. I also like Lowenna for a first name. Lowenna Bryher.

PinkAvocado · 18/01/2019 11:48

I love Ottilie and people are saying it incorrectly if they hear Otter.

Imogen is my least favourite.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 18/01/2019 11:50

Romily Rose 😍

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 18/01/2019 11:51

Imogen has been absolutely done to death where I live so that's the only one I'd avoid.

TatianaLarina · 18/01/2019 12:13

Love Romilly Bryher and Imogen Bryher.

Romilly Byher rolls off the tongue slightly better but they’re both lovely.
