We're expecting our third DC this year and my name list currently is below.

Curious to know people's thoughts/ favourites? I need to narrow it down a bit!

Ottilie Rose
Ottilie Elizabeth
Ottilie Alba

Romily Rose
Romily Bryher
Romily Lowenna
Romily Elizabeth

Imogen Bryher
Imogen Alba

Bryher Clementine
Bryher Elizabeth

I would say at the moment that Imogen is my least favourite of the four, given that it's the most popular currently and I do like more unusual names.

Probably leaning towards Romilly or Ottilie. Just concerned Ottilie could be shortened to Tilly when my DD already has a name that can be shortened to that (I would sue full name or possibly Ottie)

Hmmm...

I would use Alba as a first but DS is Albert.

Ottilie Alba, lovely! Or Ottilie Rose

TatianaLarina · 18/01/2019 12:57

Don’t like Ottilie at all. Would take Romilly over than any day and the nns are nicer Romil or Milly. Ottie is not nice at all.

shawnaander · 18/01/2019 14:05

imogen bryher

Butterfly84 · 18/01/2019 15:06

Romily Rose 100%

Gazelda · 18/01/2019 15:12

Romily Rose or Romiy Elizabeth

MamaDane · 18/01/2019 15:15

Imogen Alba.

Very pretty

AliCanTea · 18/01/2019 16:04

Quite a few Ottilies lately. Romilly Rose is great :)

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/01/2019 16:55

Do you not like Bryher Rose.
or Romilly Elizabeth is nice

WWlOOlWW · 18/01/2019 16:55

Imogen - no. Old fashioned to my ears and over done.

Alba - nice name but not with an Albert.

Ottilie - nice name, been popular for a while now .. but no because a sibling who could also get called Tilly.

Which leave Bryher which ive never heard before (good sign) and i love it!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/01/2019 16:59

Romily Rose

MikeUniformMike · 18/01/2019 17:13

How about Ottoline? It makes me think of the Tarka Line. No, that's Devon not Cornwall.

I don't like Ottilie at all. Tarka territory, utterly...

Romily - I can see why you might like it but I think of Romilly as a surname. Lots of Millys around and Rom sounds like an acronym.

Imogen - Not keen, mainly because I don't like Immy.
Alba - no
Clementine - too fruity
Bryher - With the connection I like it, but wouldn't choose it. It will probably cause spelling issues (nn Bry?)
Lowenna - joy, happiness. Would it get shortened?

How about other Cornish names?

MadeInCornwallx3 · 18/01/2019 17:26

@MikeUniformMike Fair enough Mike, I think it's clear we just have very different taste in names as you dislike them all so much!

Life would be boring if we all liked the same things!

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 18/01/2019 17:53

You misunderstand me - I don't dislike any of the names.

I like Lowenna. It's pretty and has a lovely meaning, it's not hard to say or spell.
Bryher is lovely too - such a lovely island.
And I like Rose and Elizabeth.

Lowenna Bryher would be my choice.

moredoll · 18/01/2019 18:58

Romilly Rose or Romilly Elizabeth, depending on your surname.

MadeInCornwallx3 · 18/01/2019 19:09

Thanks @MikeUniformMike - I see what you mean Smile

Actually, Ottilie isn't that bad. It's probably quite lovely just too frilly for me. I'm not keen on Alba - but Wenna is sweet - not with Lowenna though.
Tamsin is a lovely Cornish name as is Jennifer, but they're probably not 'current'. I think Dona is nice (Frenchman's Creek, saint's name) but I think most people would think Ugh 1960s name.
Endellion as in middle name of a famous Florence born in Cornwall is lovely too - prob best as a middle name to avoid Endy nn.

And I think Syllan is a lovely name.

CloserIAm2Fine · 18/01/2019 19:45

Imogen Bryher

Sophronia · 18/01/2019 22:54

Bryher Elizabeth

TatianaLarina · 19/01/2019 09:42

Would take Romilly over than any day and the nns are nicer Romil or Milly.

This is meant to say Romi not Romil!

MadeInCornwallx3 · 19/01/2019 10:02

Thank you for all your replies so far!

I'm so confused as there's a real split!

If I cut it down to:

Romily Bryher
Ottilie Rose
Imogen Alba

Which would be the favourite?

Can I have an Ottilie with a Matilda?

OP posts:
shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 19/01/2019 10:55

Of those 3 my favourite is Romily Bryher

I wouldn't personally choose Ottilie if you already have a Matilda as even if you don't use Tilly as a nn you can't control what friends may call her

I like Imogen but there are a lot about in the 0-16 age group

Alba has associations of cheap electrical goods from the 1990s for me

TatianaLarina · 19/01/2019 11:02

Romilly Bryher for me.

MikeUniformMike · 19/01/2019 12:38

You can have whatever you like with Matilda.
But Ottilie might end up being Tilly. (2 Tillys)
Romilly might end up being Milly. (Tilly and Milly)

Alba is a bit too like Albert and I remember it as a brand name.
Bryher is so lovely, do use it, so from those 3 my vote is for Imogen Bryher, but I prefer Lowenna Bryher.

daisypond · 19/01/2019 14:36

Out of your new shortlist I'd go for Romilly Bryher. I've not heard of Bryher, but I like the explanation.
I don't like Ottilie (otterly/ utterly) and I'm not wild about Imogen. I like Rose, and Alba is OK.
