What do you think?

Popular name circa 2010. We quite like it now, it goes well with our surname and thinking of using it if we have a boy. Just wanted to ask your thoughts about whether it is a classic name or dated.

Not a fan, sorry.

GreenIce · 23/12/2018 12:06

I like it, it's very unusual where I live, in fact I don't know a single one.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/12/2018 12:07

I think it's lovely!

MikeUniformMike · 23/12/2018 12:07

I don't like it, but it's not my baby. Nn will be Judas or Judy.
It's from the bible so is not a new name but do you know of anyone over the age of 18 with the name?

Grinchly · 23/12/2018 12:09

Awful awful awful!

bertielab · 23/12/2018 12:10

I love it.

Jude Law.

It comes from Judah -which is equally lovely. Judah Ben-Hur.

There is a Jude in the bible -book of Jude. Lovely old name.

I like it. Know a couple but not recently, more 5-6 years old. I wanted it but didn’t like nn Judy so I didn’t go for it

WatchingTheWheels85 · 23/12/2018 12:11

My oldest is jude he's 15. Named after the beatles song and back then nobody had this name. He is the only one where we live and I haven't met another. Haven't had any problems with nicknames either.

Madbengalmum · 23/12/2018 12:17

Jude the obscure, no. Too popular in my area imho.

cariadlet · 23/12/2018 12:17

Love it.

I don't think of it as dated as in a name that was only fashionable a few years ago. It makes me think of Jude the Obscure, Hey Jude and Jude Law, so names from a few different eras.

I think it's a classic name that may have waves of popularity, but is traditional enough to be used at any time (unlike names such as Kylie which really date someone).

Stuckforthefourthtime · 23/12/2018 12:18

I liked it but DH vetoed and now I'm glad he did... There are two in ds2s class - and one is distinguished by being called Rudey Judey. It's out me right off it!

RCohle · 23/12/2018 13:23

I really like it. It's definitely not hugely popular where we are. Easy to pronounce and doesn't have any weird connotations.

Mehmehmeh19 · 23/12/2018 13:51

Absolutely love it, popular here. I'd always worry about Saint Jude though

CheeseTheDay · 23/12/2018 14:09

I'm afraid the name leaves me cold. It's what was printed on the yellow 'Star of David' badges that the Nazis made Jews wear, as it is the German word for Jew. My grandmother still has hers.

FlumpyMummy · 23/12/2018 14:47

I did not realise that Cheese. That has stopped me in my tracks with it.

I always think it's to girly for a boy.

Corcra · 23/12/2018 16:49

I really like it. Theres a Jude in my daughter's class, he's 4. It really suits him.

PrincessConsuelaBannanaHammock · 23/12/2018 16:52

I really liked it, until I read what CheeseTheDay posted and now I don't think I could use it either Sad

MattBerrysHair · 23/12/2018 16:58

It's ds2's middle name and I love it. I didn't know it was written on the yellow arm bands ☹️

RCohle · 23/12/2018 17:23

The Nazis put it on the Star of David because it is German for "Jew". Not using it as a name because of that seems wrong to me.

"Jude" and the Star of David are symbols of the Jewish people, not of Nazi persecution. The totality of Jewish identity isn't the holocaust. The name "Jude" and other names/symbols associated with Judaism shouldn't be reviled because the Nazis appropriated some of them as symbols of hatred.

elliejjtiny · 23/12/2018 17:54

I love it. Was on my list for my youngest but dh didn't like it so we went for Joseph in the end.

Cbeebiesrehab · 23/12/2018 20:36

My sons name. Never been called Judas or Judy. Yes it means Jew in German but imo that is not a negative. We always get positive comments. Still very happy with our decision.

sunshineandshowers21 · 23/12/2018 20:37

i love it! we’ve decided that if we have ever have another boy we’ll call him jude.

LePetitPont · 23/12/2018 20:39

I have a Jude (21 months) and it really suits him - we don’t know any other little Judes. I call him Judy a lot! So I say... 👍
