It's a lovely classical name.

notpushyinterested · 18/12/2018 06:43

gorgeous

Ohyesiam · 18/12/2018 06:45

Beautiful, but people will automatically shorten it to Alex if you don’t mind that.

RedDwarves · 18/12/2018 07:50

I love it, but really hate Alex, so could never use it.

Astronica · 18/12/2018 08:53

Lovely timeless name. It can be kept as the long form (and correct people who shorten it to Alex), or choose one of the many lovely short forms to use alongside of the full name.

Beenherebefore · 18/12/2018 08:55

It's my DDs middle name, I love it.

It doesn't have to be shortened to Alex, plenty of people have long names that can be shortened but aren't .
Not every Jacqueline becomes Jackie, not every Penelope becomes Penny, not every Jonathan becomes John etc.

It's a beautiful, strong, classic name.

NonaGrey · 18/12/2018 08:56

Beautiful

Chriss82 · 18/12/2018 09:10

Thanks all, we weren't sure if it was too long for a first name?

I know 2 baby Alexandras and both are known as Lexie

ItIsChristmasTime · 18/12/2018 09:20

It’s a beautiful, timeless and classical name. There are a huge number of nicknames for Alexandra - Ally, Lexie, Xandra, Sandra are just off the top of my head. It doesn’t need to be Alex at all.

Hundredacrewoods · 18/12/2018 09:22

I've known a large number of Alexandras and not a single one goes by the full name so the question is do you like Alex/Aly/Lexi etc. more than every other name in the world - if yes go for it!

EloisaJane · 18/12/2018 09:50

It's a gorgeous name. Beautiful, classic and versatile. I personally like all the shortenings. I once knew one who went by Axie which was actually adorable.

Chriss82 · 18/12/2018 09:58

Thank you for your replies. I'm surprised how positive it is for this name

RaspberryBeret34 · 18/12/2018 10:01

Beautiful but I'd only go for it if there's a shortened version you like. Based on a friend's experience she will end up Alex otherswise or constantly correcting people.

foofooyeah · 18/12/2018 10:03

The very best people are called Alexandra 😏

Zebedee88 · 18/12/2018 10:03

That's my name, I did shorten it when I was quite young, I was a bit of a tomboy! But I love the name

Chriss82 · 18/12/2018 10:11

@Zebedee88 do you mind me asking what you shortened it to?

OP posts:
Luxecalmeetvolupte · 18/12/2018 10:13

DD is 1, and we've vehemently kept it as the long form name. Nobody seems to have a problem with it!

happystory · 18/12/2018 10:53

Love it and rarely heard in this country

Sophronia · 18/12/2018 11:14

Lovely!

MsJuniper · 18/12/2018 11:18

I love it. I guess it might set off Alexa in some people's homes?! But it's such a beautiful name.

Zebedee88 · 18/12/2018 12:01

I shortened it to Alex. Although nowadays it's a mixture of Alex or Ali.

Cbeebiesrehab · 18/12/2018 12:22

Like Alexandra but don’t like Alex unfortunately. I like Ali though!

Chriss82 · 18/12/2018 13:02

I'm surprised how positive the name is, I thought it might have been seen as to old fashioned or to long a name. There is many different nicknames as well

Didyeeaye · 18/12/2018 15:56

Love Alexandra. If I ever have a DD it shall be her name. I agree with the comments about the nicknames though as they are inevitable x
