What do you think to name Alexandra?

I like Alexandra and Alexa
The Alexa’s I know are generally shortened to lex or lex or Lexie which you can still use with Alexandra

If you are looking for similar names I like
Alina
Arianna
Aribella

I am 39 weeks pregnant with my second daughter, and we're pretty sure we will call her Alexandra. I like the shortened name Alex though as well.

My first daughter is Matilda.

Rafabella · 21/12/2018 05:45

Beautiful

knittedjest · 21/12/2018 15:54

Love it. Would use the Russian Sasha as a nickname.

seeingdots · 21/12/2018 17:38

I love Alexandra, great name.

OvO · 21/12/2018 17:43

Lovely.

I have an Alexander and he’s never an Alex (or any other shortening).

Chriss82 · 21/12/2018 19:40

It really surprised me how positive this name is viewed, this is great, thanks for all the feedback. I can see that it would get shortened to Alex but hopefully this could be kept at bay for a while.

Love it and was my favourite girls name (incl. nn Alex as I loved names with unisex nns) when I was a teen, but I've since had a long term ex called Alex so would never use it!

Triskaidekaphilia · 22/12/2018 01:43

You could deliberately use Lexie or Xandra if you don't want her to be called Alex.

Macarena1990 · 23/12/2018 22:22

I love it.. only 'classic' name I considered for my girls

BillyAndTheSillies · 23/12/2018 22:29

I'm an Alexandra and have always been called Alex. Not a fan of Alex and tried to change what I was known as at school but nothing stuck.
My parents were just adamant that my name would be shortened regardless of what name they gave me so chose a name where the nickname was still a name if that makes sense?
Have worked with people from France and Ukraine who have called me Sasha as that seems to be their shortening. Much prefer that!

No middle name, just first name and surname.

halfwitpicker · 23/12/2018 22:33

Very nice name.

Can also be shortened to Alec, which many Akexandra's love.

SpornStar · 23/12/2018 22:38

I have an Alexandra, known to everyone as Sasha though.

Ffsnosexallowed · 23/12/2018 22:40

The 2 I know are both known as Sasha too

Ohyesiam · 23/12/2018 22:47

Ok, outing myself now. Dd is called Alexandra, and try as we might, pretty much EVERYONE shortens it to Alex despite constant correction.

Teachers, friends, friends parents, people hear Alexandra, but say Alex.
English people that is. I don’t think any of my European friends ever shorten it.
Beauiful beautiful name, very prone to being cut in half.

Chriss82 · 23/12/2018 22:55

Umm I can that is would be hard to enforce the full name however there is lots of possibilities for my little girl to do what she wants with the name. I'm surprised how popular and well liked the name is though. We weren't sure if it was too dated but it would appear not

I love the name however there was someone posted about there Dd the other day . I think it was Alexia and was concerned about the connection with Amazon home hub. I still love it though

FuzzyShadowChatter · 23/12/2018 23:03

I love it, though biased as it is my older daughter's name.

She now Y7 and, other than a few of adults who tried to use Alex briefly and toddlers who tend to shorten it to 'Andra, she and everyone has called her by her full name. It's hard to predict how others will handle it and I find adults tend to be worse than kids her age but my daughter has been stubborn about it.

As an example, when she was 6 or so, she had one adult ask to shorten it to Alex to which she responded 'okay'. When the adult next to them said "So your name is Alex?', my daughter's response was "No, my name is Alexandra." They didn't try that again Grin

Chriss82 · 24/12/2018 00:48

@FuzzyShadowChatter that's great to hear, shows the name reflects a strong personality.

NikiFree · 24/12/2018 23:16

Elegant and beautiful.

She may like Alex as a nn or choose another.

Cookit · 26/12/2018 13:10

Adore this name. The only reason I won’t use it is that I know an unpleasant woman with the name (such a shame when the worst people get the best names).

champagneduvin · 26/12/2018 16:27

Beautiful but hate all the nicknames

Chriss82 · 26/12/2018 21:02

@Cookit isn't it funny that names are influenced by people you already know with that same name. Well I hope my little Alexandra doesn't taint the name!
