What do you think to name Alexandra?

Alexandra is lovely.
I like Xan as a shortening.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/12/2018 10:29

We have one and I still love it - love the full version, but also love how flexible it is. Felt like it was a name with a variant which would suit her whatever type of person she grows in to.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 20/12/2018 10:55

I love Alexandra but not keen on Alex.

Chriss82 · 20/12/2018 19:00

I really am surprised how positively received this name is. We thought it might have been a bit long or too regal

It’s a beautiful name. DS has a Polish friend and her name is Aleksandra. She’s a very beautiful lady and goes by Aleks.

RickOShay · 20/12/2018 19:15

Same as Badger. I always call dd Alexandra or her nickname which isn’t a derivative. All her friends call her Alex.

3boysandabump · 20/12/2018 19:19

I'm an Alexandra. Everyone assumes I like it shortened to Alex which I don't mind but just something to bear in mind.

Family call me Lex.

GrannyHaddock · 20/12/2018 19:25

Super name, strong and classical.

Chriss82 · 20/12/2018 19:29

Great feedback... we were a little unsure asa name for a baby/toddler but its great to hear how well received it is

Have you read the recent Alexa thread?

Chriss82 · 20/12/2018 20:19

@GrannyHaddock what about it sorry?

Lovely name - go for it

GrannyHaddock · 20/12/2018 20:22

It's a mum considering changing her daughter Alexa's name to Alexandra because she is fed up with the Amazon connection. You might be interested in the various comments. It's further down in the baby name section.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 20/12/2018 20:22

I wouldnt as she would be Alex to most people. So basically decide if you want to call her Alex.

And yes the Alexa worry in peoples houses.

ItIsChristmasTime · 20/12/2018 20:24

I wouldnt as she would be Alex to most people. So basically decide if you want to call her Alex.

How ridiculous. She would be whatever nickname she introduced herself to people as or Alexandra if she made it clear she preferred her full name.

GrannyHaddock · 20/12/2018 20:24

It's on the next page of baby name threads.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 20/12/2018 20:28

ItisChristmas have you not seen some replied above. Of course you can call her what you like at home but all the ones I've taught end up Alex at school. So its fine if you want to call her Alex.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 20/12/2018 20:30

A friend's son is Alexander and is having a similar battle with school. She keeps insisting the teacher uses his full name. But TAs etc don't always know/do this and he's ending up an Alex now in year 2 despite her insistence.

MollyHuaCha · 20/12/2018 20:37

I love this name.

Remember the middle 'a' will be pronounced differently by those with different accents to your own.

WoodBurnerBabe · 20/12/2018 20:42

Alexandra is a lovely name. I will say there is nothing wrong with Alex as a nickname, but I do have skin in that particular game, so am biased!

Chriss82 · 20/12/2018 20:47

@GrannyHaddock we are the ones from the Alexa thread asking now about the name Alexandra. We started under a new thread to see an impartial view on the name Alexandra as it's not a name we had previously considered and are interested in people's view of it.

GrannyHaddock · 20/12/2018 20:56

Oh!

GrannyHaddock · 20/12/2018 20:57

They're both lovely names!

Chriss82 · 20/12/2018 20:58

@GrannyHaddock thank you for you feedback though
