Nickname for Elizabeth

We are expecting DD2 this Spring and are really stuck on a name. We both love Elizabeth though I'm finding it hard to find a nickname I like (while i would be happy for the name to be used in full, I'm not sure this would be realistic once she reaches school age). Really not a big fan of the usual nicknames such as Lizzie, Liz, Libby, Betty, Betsy etc. Don't mind Elle or Ellie though worried they are too popular. What do people think of Ezzie? It's really growing on me though worried it's too 'out there' as not a normal shortening for Elizabeth. Was also thinking about 'Bee' but worried this might also be too much of a stretch. DD1 is Lucy.

Just call her Elizabeth.

tryinganewname · 16/12/2018 07:17

I know an Elizabeth that goes by 'Elma' she's an older lady. I wouldn't shorten it though, it's a beautiful name and deserves its full use.

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 16/12/2018 07:20

Beth

Hangingtrousers · 16/12/2018 07:21

Ezzie is cute .. but not sure about it on an adult.
Other less common Elizabeth nick Ames .
Bunty
Beth
Buffy
Liesl

FluffyMcCloud · 16/12/2018 07:22

Ezzie is horrid, sorry. Just call her Elizabeth until she is old enough to choose her own diminutive.

Wavingwhiledrowning · 16/12/2018 07:43

My name is Elizabeth and I can honestly say that I wish that's what people called me! Without fail people say "so are you liz, or lizzy, or...?". Just saying "actually, it's Elizabeth" always throws people and is far less common as names go than some of the nicknames you'll come up with. Plus (although I'll admit it's taken me until adulthood to acknowledge this) it's a really lovely name! Saying that though, I have a nickname my sister gave me when we were small. I love that it just happened and has a story - better than anything my mum probably would have come up with!

Pinkgin50 · 16/12/2018 07:45

I know an Elizabeth who is known as Libby.

crumble82 · 16/12/2018 07:48

I like Beth or Liza. If you like Bee have you thought about Beatrix/Beatrice?

Ohyesiam · 16/12/2018 07:49

I used to really dislike a common shortening for dds name, but Sod’s law its the one she chose at about 5/6.
I’ve now loved it for many years because i associate it with her, and she’s very lovable.

Watto1 · 16/12/2018 07:51

Lillibet? If it's good enough for the Queen...

RedDwarves · 16/12/2018 07:53

I'm an Elizabeth. People presume to either call me Elizabeth or Liz/Lizzie.

If you introduce her as Ezzie, people will call her that, but I honestly don't think you'll be able to completely avoid Liz or Lizzie.

Heratnumber7 · 16/12/2018 07:53

I font think you can beat Beth. It's a lovely n/nn

Nightlights · 16/12/2018 07:54

Liza
Libby
Beth
Lisbet

But I agree Elizabeth is just beautiful as a full name

knowingkaleidoscope · 16/12/2018 07:55

Libby or Beth.

stellarfox · 16/12/2018 08:24

You’ve got to bear in mind she might end up choosing her own nickname when she’s older from the list you don’t like as much. I’d call her Elizabeth for now and see if any nicknames come naturally

ZebraKid71 · 16/12/2018 08:28

If I didn't like any of the nicknames I wouldn't call her Elizabeth. I know one who is 38 and always reinforces that fact that she uses her full name and she still gets called liz!

Alltheprettyseahorses · 16/12/2018 08:28

Bess or Bessie?

jessstan2 · 16/12/2018 08:31

I love the name Elizabeth, I'd say it's my favourite girl's name. Known plenty and they are usually called Liz or Beth, both of which are nice, so are Bet and Bess, in my opinion. She'll choose her own diminutive so don't worry about it, go with the flow.

dementedpixie · 16/12/2018 08:34

My sister is an Elizabeth and that's what I've always called her. Some people call her Liz but I never have. My mum is also Elizabeth but gets called Elsie

Hundredacrewoods · 16/12/2018 08:37

The Elizabeth I know calls herself 'E.B.'

Kim82 · 16/12/2018 08:41

I have a friend called Elizabeth, she goes by the nickname Lil.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/12/2018 08:47

Elizabeth is one of the most beautiful names out there. There are endless nns. However you have to be realistic if you're not a fan of any of the nns. Its best think of something else. I think the only Elizabeth who is referred her full title is The Queen and even as a occasionally she's Lilibet if Im not mistaken.
You may not like Liz, but your dd might.

Some nns ideas, though
Elle. Ella. Ellie. Liza. Lily. Libby. Zabby Betsy. Lisa. Betty. Beth.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 16/12/2018 08:59

I don't get this. Elle and Ellie aren't nicknames for Elizabeth. Never heard of Ezzie. Either call her Elizabeth or one of the abbreviations, or call her something completely different.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/12/2018 09:02

Ezzie for Elizabeth would work. Whether she would get called this outside the family might take a bit of work.

I like it.

toomanyeastereggsurghh · 16/12/2018 09:17

Being a teacher I’ve know lots of Elizabeths other than the usual nicknames there have also been:
Eliza
Elsa (her full name was Elisabeth with a soft s)
Lily
Elspeth
Effy (my favourite)
Lisi
Bebe

You could also give her first Elizabeth and then call her by her middle name.
