I've always had such a soft spot for the name Genevieve, however, after mentioning to friends and family we've had such negative feedback.

What are your thoughts? :)

There was a really pretty girl in my middle school called it. It seemed a really special name

MonaChopsis · 07/12/2018 23:32

It's nice, though yes it's a bit of a mouthful. The only Genevieve I know is actually called Evie day-to-day, and is one of three Eve/Evie's in the year.

Leonie87 · 07/12/2018 23:35

I absolutely love it but I couldn’t convince DH.

My plan was to shorten it to Ginny.

LucyMorningStar · 07/12/2018 23:36

It's lovely

statetrooperstacey · 07/12/2018 23:37

It's quite a big name isn't it , I like it though.

Danglingmod · 07/12/2018 23:40

I've taught two: one pronounced Gen-uh-veeve and one pronounced the French way (Jzon-vee-ev) but both shortened it to Gen.

I like it and don't think it's OTT at all.

RedDwarves · 07/12/2018 23:41

I've always loved it, but I think it's a shame that it'll inevitably be shortened by people, and that at least 80% of people won't know how to spell it.

DramaAlpaca · 07/12/2018 23:56

Beautiful name.

Not too much at all if you like long names.

Lovingbenidorm · 07/12/2018 23:59

Lovely name

BangGoesThatTheory · 08/12/2018 00:00

I know a Genevieve she’s mid 30s and very lovely.
Her mates usually call her Gen.

PlatypusPie · 08/12/2018 00:05

It’s beautiful name and can be shortened in several ways, as shown by PPs. Go for it !

ifcatscouldtalk · 08/12/2018 00:06

I know a Genevieve shortened occasionally to Gena. Some people weren't sure at first but it's a grower.

Shadow1234 · 08/12/2018 03:01

I think its a lovely name, along with Evangeline!

vinegarqueen · 08/12/2018 03:36

I know a Genevieve who is ”Jen/Gen” day to day. She is great, very confident and successful!

SadieContrary · 08/12/2018 04:20

It was on my list but DH vetoed it so we went for Constance

ForAMinuteThere · 08/12/2018 07:46

I know one posh one. I also know one chavvy one. Personally see it as a posh name and very pretty!

greendale17 · 08/12/2018 07:49

Reminds me of French girls

Beautiful and not too much! I’d be a bit put off by Gen/Jen, but love other shortenings like Eve, Ginny, Vivi, etc.

sue51 · 08/12/2018 08:12

Lovely name.

Topofthehills · 08/12/2018 08:13

I taught one recently (at a uni) who didn't shorten it.

I don't think it's too much at all. Three syllable names don't always need shortening (4 or more syllables starts to feel like a bit much to me!)

I think it's feminine but not actually super frilly, somehow. Nice that she can be Gen if she wants to. Love it.

insancerre · 08/12/2018 08:16

I know a 2 year old Genevieve who gets called Gigi mostly
I prefer her proper name to the nickname

Yewnicorn · 08/12/2018 08:21

It’s beautiful and not too much.

SallyWD · 08/12/2018 08:22

It's a beautiful name and Ginny is lovely.

Penguinsetpandas · 08/12/2018 08:24

Nice name and fine in length unless maybe a really long surname.
