I've always had such a soft spot for the name Genevieve, however, after mentioning to friends and family we've had such negative feedback.

What are your thoughts? :)

I like it. Only ever met one girl by the name when I was a girl guide about 22 years ago ish.
She was very confident and chatty.

JudasPrudy · 08/12/2018 19:05

Nah it's fine! Go for it

GrannyHaddock · 08/12/2018 20:34

That's a very attractive name, and the the shortened forms are lovely too.

MrWolfknowsthetime · 08/12/2018 20:43

I really like it, but I wouldn’t to go through life with it as my name. If that makes any sense.

MrWolfknowsthetime · 08/12/2018 20:43

Wouldn’t want ...

CakeRattleandRoll · 09/12/2018 12:54

Love it.

madmum5811 · 09/12/2018 12:56

love it, Ginny if family want to shorten it.

OhTheRoses · 09/12/2018 13:00

It's lovely and was on our list 20 plus years ago. Would have used it but for our 17 letter surname! Also love Ophelia which I think is a similar genre.

CruCru · 09/12/2018 13:37

I would like this but I know that I don’t pronounce it the correct French way. I was speaking to a woman who was thinking of calling her new baby it and she kept correcting me (I really wasn’t being an arse - I just couldn’t hear the difference between the way we said it) and she ended up getting a bit cross I think.

If you are going to live in England, it’s likely to get pronounced the way I say it.

starkid · 09/12/2018 13:57

I love it! DH also finds it a bit too much

OhTheRoses · 09/12/2018 14:00

What about Guinivere if French Genevieve is a problem.

Roomba · 09/12/2018 14:00

I really like it. Very pretty name.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/12/2018 14:01

We know a 15 yo Genevieve, she normally gets called Gee.

Roomba · 09/12/2018 14:01

Guinevere just reminds me of the youngest (male) child of The Modern Parents (Viz) so I'm vetoing it based on that Grin

noraclavicle · 09/12/2018 14:07

Ignore GrumpyOlderBloke Grin! It’s a delightful name and also one of the loveliest films (and Darracqs) ever made. If we’d had another DD I’d have pushed for Genevieve (or Rosalind for that matter - fans of the film will know what I mean)

TatianaLarina · 09/12/2018 21:50

I know a Genevieve nn Viva.

I love Guinevere (prefer it)

ViserionTheDragon · 09/12/2018 21:58

I had a discussion with a French friend about this name and she thought it sounded very old-fashioned while I loved it!

I actually prefer the French pronunciation too, but both are very nice. I think it's very under-used here in the UK. Go for it!

Disfordarkchocolate · 09/12/2018 21:59

It's beautiful.

Beamur · 09/12/2018 22:00

Nice. Not over used and with lots of good diminutives.

Absolutely beautiful, but I do feel sorry for reception kids with long names. She’ll envy any Amys she sits near!
