girls name - opinions?

So, me and my fiancé are expecting our first baby in February.. and just wondering peoples opinion on the name we have chosen as it is a strange one and I think I can handle peoples opinion on here more than family and friends so just be honest haha. I decided I didn't want a 'plain' name as my parents literally made my name up and from what I know, there isn't anyone else with my name!
Her name will be Hailee-Rey Smile

Honestly ? I don't like it. Sorry ! It's just not my style. I like traditional names mostly. And I'm not keen on strange spellings , like to me that looks like Hayley Rae but spelled incorrectly. Also don't like hyphenated names. So all round no for me haha

Sorry! You did ask for honest opinions lol

Tentomidnight · 26/11/2018 19:30

Assuming this isn’t a wind up, my opinion is that made up names sound trashy, and that people will (rightly or wrongly) judge you when they hear your DD’s name.

FogCutter · 26/11/2018 19:31

It looks like you've spelled it wrong or are trying really hard to be different.

She'll have a lifetime of having to spell her name out and correct people

Sexnotgender · 26/11/2018 19:33

It's dreadful.

Lila288 · 26/11/2018 19:34

Awful.

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/11/2018 19:34

It's awful. Really, really bad. Sorry.

Bigonesmallone3 · 26/11/2018 19:34

Don't do it

TrickyKid · 26/11/2018 19:34

Not sure if you're joking.

If you don't like your name because it's made up, why give your daughter a made up name?

doublethink · 26/11/2018 19:34

I can see why you like it, but it does look and sound like a made up name, but not really in a good way. I think she will possibly resent having a name that is hyphenated and that she will be having to spell out for people for the whole of her life. What about just having Hayley as her first name and Rey as her middle name?

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 26/11/2018 19:35

It’s a no from me

RiverTam · 26/11/2018 19:37

It’s a no from me, too. For reasons of spelling, double barrelledness and just really don’t like it.

InfantaSybilla · 26/11/2018 19:38

Why not just spell it as Hayley-Ray because that's how almost everyone she will interact with in the future will automatically write it down as?

keepingbees · 26/11/2018 19:38

I don't like it sorry. You are signing her up to a lifetime of spelling her name out. Quirky spellings aren't unique anymore.

chloem93 · 26/11/2018 19:41

I like Hailee but I'm not so sure on the Rey part, I'm also assuming you'll want people to say the full version Hailee-Rey but I bet that most people will just call her Hailee and if they spell it, will always spell it Hallie or Halle, which you've got to ask yourself if you will get annoyed with that.

cw96 · 26/11/2018 19:41

I didnt expect good reactions just honesty rather than people i know saying oh its different which we all know is code for what in the world but It's not a wind up at all haha! I love my own name, ive never said i didnt like it.. it's very unusual which is why I love it as people are always enquiring about my background etc plus I'm just thankful my parents didn't choose Priscilla for me which was the other option Blush

OP posts:
Bigonesmallone3 · 26/11/2018 19:44

Do u have other options?
I don't think ur daughter would be asked that question with that name..

ernjas · 26/11/2018 19:45

I think she'd get annoyed with people misspelling both names all of her life!
Do you have any other options?

needasleep · 26/11/2018 19:46

It is a no from me. No one will ever spell it correctly and you and your daughter will be forever correcting everyone.

tryinganewname · 26/11/2018 19:49

I don't think it's an unusual name at all? I know loads of Hayley's - which is what the name is but spelt differently. Ray is also a very popular middle name for girls now so again, it's not very different

I myself have an unusual name, as do all my family so I get why you're aiming for it but I think there's much nicer and more unusual names.

cw96 · 26/11/2018 19:52

For those wondering about the Rey spelling/part of it.. it's v significant to the fiance and was a compromise, I've suggested spelling it Rae instead but it's spelt Rey where it originates from

OP posts:
RavenWings · 26/11/2018 19:53

Just call her Hayley Rey. Don't glue them together into some trashy Frankenstein of a name.

IStandWithPosie · 26/11/2018 19:54

Rey from Star Wars?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/11/2018 19:56

It's really bad OP. At least spell it Hayley Rae.

kenandbarbie · 26/11/2018 19:58

I agree with everyone else. Sorry. Hayley Rae would be salvageable.

cw96 · 26/11/2018 19:59

@istandwithposie Nope however I've been asked that by everyone I know! 😂
