girls name - opinions?

So, me and my fiancé are expecting our first baby in February.. and just wondering peoples opinion on the name we have chosen as it is a strange one and I think I can handle peoples opinion on here more than family and friends so just be honest haha. I decided I didn't want a 'plain' name as my parents literally made my name up and from what I know, there isn't anyone else with my name!
Her name will be Hailee-Rey Smile

I love it. Someone was on last week asking for opinions about naming her baby Lindsey. It's nice to see the 70s 80s names starting to make a come back.

Gettingonwithlife · 26/11/2018 20:13

Why ask for opinions if you and your partner like it thats all that matters

starandson · 26/11/2018 20:19

What about Hailey or Haylee if you want a different spelling? I’d personally go for Hayley but it’s your baby!

madeyemoodysmum · 26/11/2018 20:21

Just Rea
Or Hayley
Not both.

Tallie12 · 26/11/2018 20:24

Hailee seems very 80s/90s to me, rather than unusual. I slightly prefer Hallie to Hailee or even something like Hadley which isn't my taste but doesn't seem as dated as Hailee does. I'm also not a fan of hyphenated names!

AuntMarch · 26/11/2018 20:37

I'm not a fan of hyphens or "unique" spellings, but think Hayley is quite pretty. Rey as a middle name (if he really does insist on the spelling). You can use the whole name, I don't get the need for punctuation!

RiverTam · 26/11/2018 20:43

Ok, well, in that case I’d certainly spell Hayley either as Hayley or Hailey, because Hailee simply makes you look like a child spelling a name phonetically. And get used to everyone asked about Star Wars. And I wouldn’t hyphenate it, just do Hayley Rey.

Actually, I’ve now decided that I really don’t like it.

mathanxiety · 26/11/2018 20:49

Hayley is nice.
Rey is nice.
I would avoid Hailee and I would drop the hyphen.

DramaAlpaca · 26/11/2018 22:09

Your choice of name was never going to get a positive reaction on MN. I hope you have a thick skin!

I'm sorry, but I don't like it either. Creative spellings and hyphens are not my thing.

Highlowpo · 26/11/2018 22:21

My first name is Hayley and I have to spell it out enough as it is! I certainly wouldn't go for that spelling or the hyphenation. It doesn't need it and it makes a decent name look trashy (sorry!). It'll cause her never ending problems spelling it out constantly.

Shadow1234 · 26/11/2018 22:29

I think its a nice name but would probably change the spelling of Rey to Rae or Rai.

bookswinebookswine · 26/11/2018 22:34

I read it as Hallie ray. Which I think is a lot nicer anyway. Not a fan of the name Hayley

Sessy19 · 26/11/2018 22:41

Hayley is a terrible name on its own, hyphenating it with another awful collection of letters doesn’t make it any better

Astronica · 27/11/2018 03:11
  1. It's not an unusual name at all - Hayley in various spellings is everywhere.
  2. Adding Rey in any spelling is not unusual either - hyphen Rae/Ray etc is very common addition to many names.
  3. By spelling Hailee this way it makes it look like her parents have little education - I'm sorry, but that's how it will seem to others. Spelling it Hayley or Hailey (this one is the usual US way) would be better.
  4. Other names you may consider: just Hayley, Heidi, Airlie, Marlow, Harlow, Hallie, Haidee, Helsa, Holland.
Sophronia · 27/11/2018 03:23

Please spell it Hayley, and drop the hyphen.

chezbot · 27/11/2018 03:27

Doesnt the lass from True Grit/Pitch Perfect spell her name as Hailee?

if I met a Hailee I'd assume aforementioned actress inspired the choice of name.

Ca55andraMortmain · 27/11/2018 06:22

Agree with everyone else. Hayley is a nice name although it isn't at all unusual. Just spell it Hayley though - most people who meet her will just hear her name and those who need to write it down will be confused. Spelling it Hailee doesn't make it more unusual. Again Ray, Rae, Rey is one of the most common middle names around right now. It's nice, but it isn't unusual and you said you wanted something really unique.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/11/2018 07:42

Haley isn't a nice name. It's bland and dated. Better than Hailee, Hallie, Haillee or whatever though I guess.

cw96 · 27/11/2018 10:59

@chezbot yes thats Hailee Steinfeld :)

Fulltimemummy85 · 27/11/2018 11:08

Hayley is ok, not fond on the two 'y' sounding names together. Not fond of double barrel either or the name rae. I have a name that is spelt differently and it's really annoying.

sunshineonrainyhay · 27/11/2018 11:20

What about Halley Ray keep the space theme ?

Hyphated names suck sorry op, she'll only get called Hayley even by you .

ZebraKid71 · 27/11/2018 11:27

I don't particularly like the spelling.

But if you want unusual this isn't it. Hayley in all its forms is very well known and the - rae/mae addition is everywhere!

Zoflorabore · 27/11/2018 11:31

Tacky name, people do judge names so much in life so be prepared for that.

You did ask.

Bloomini · 27/11/2018 12:11

Sounds like the weather forecast.

Hailey rain. Good one OP.

LMDC · 27/11/2018 13:10

Double barrelled first names look horrible in most cases, and everyone I know with a db first name goes by the first half anyway so they seem pointless.

Because both Hailee and Rey use an alternative spelling, and are hyphenated, the name sounds too 'yooneek', tacky and try hard. Hailey is nice (Hallie nicer) and Ray/Rae is nice but Hailee-Rey just isn't imo.

If you're set on the names then Hailey Rey would be much better (if the Rey spelling is meaningful) but at the very least lose the hyphen & you could still call her Hailee Rey day to day anyway.
