Middle name for Ruby

I know some people will have negative views of the name Ruby but DH and I really like and have been calling baby it for at least the last 3-4 weeks (I am 27w pregnant) so seems likely it will be her name (but I really liked Aurora James for a while so could still change my mind!)

Our surname begins without R so thinking of middle names to go with Ruby

DH likes Ruby Charlotte and Ruby Cerys

I like Ruby Isabella but DH thinks it sounds like Rubella!

I like Ruby Alyssa
Ruby Sofia
Ruby Sienna

Not sure a middle name beginning with R would work...

🤔

Ruby Rae
Ruby Grace
Ruby Elizabeth

babycakes1010 · 10/11/2018 12:31

I was going to say Sienna........for a girl we had Sienna ruby

AliceRR · 10/11/2018 12:43

@Holidayshopping Hadn’t thought of Ruby Marie but had considered Ruby May / Mae

@GreatDuckCookery @IggyAce Elizabeth and Willow are on my list too 🙂 Valentina is lovely

@babycakes1010 good choice, works well that way too

We were also just discussing Ruby Arianna

I would avoid Ruby Alyssa, because initials RAR make me growl.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/11/2018 12:52

Ruby Ellen.
Ruby Olivia
Ruby Evelyn
Ruby Alexandra
Ruby Aurora

TatianaLarina · 10/11/2018 12:54

I think all your other suggestions are nicer than Ruby which is a stripper name.

Don’t make it worse by adding Mae or Rae.

Polkasq · 10/11/2018 12:55

Charlotte, Alyssa and Sofia are all lovely choices, then Sienna. I think your husband is right about the "rubella" similarity. Isadora instead of Isabella?

Ruby Emmeline
Ruby Faith
Ruby Larissa
Ruby Genevieve
Ruby Jasmine
Ruby Greta
Ruby Eleanor
Ruby Frances
Ruby Megan
Ruby Alexandra
Ruby Cecilia
Ruby Serena
Ruby Miranda
Ruby Olivia
Ruby Jennifer

Bloomini · 10/11/2018 13:01

Ruby is an old fashioned lovely name. I don't think the other 'colour' names go as a middle name so I'd avoid Cerys and Sienna. I like Charlotte but not as a middle name to Ruby. What about Elizabeth?

Polkasq · 10/11/2018 13:01

Or if you go for Aurora after all...

Aurora Seren
Aurora Carys
Aurora Jasmine
Aurora Lucy
Aurora Phoebe
Aurora Faye
Aurora Genevieve
Aurora Beatrice
Aurora Sophie
Aurora Charlotte
Aurora Megan
Aurora Violet

Santaispolishinghissleigh · 10/11/2018 13:05

My dd is Ruby Amelia

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/11/2018 13:06

Is James your last name or a middle name you're thinking of if you with Aurora.

Joinourclub · 10/11/2018 13:08

I think Ruby is a lovely name and most definitely NOT a stripper name.

noenergy · 10/11/2018 13:11

Ruby Jane
Ruby Alice
Ruby Isla

Devillanelle · 10/11/2018 13:17

Ruby is a stripper name? Jesus I've heard it all now.

I'd avoid a second name that starts with a vowel, I think the two names would flow into each other too much. And something with one syllable would break up the two 'R' sounds.

Something like Ruby Clare or Ruby Jane would be nice.

AliceRR · 10/11/2018 14:30

James is DH surname and I quote liked it as a middle name but for a girl which I know not everyone would go for

I do love Aurora but DH isn’t keen and I think it’s quite a popular name for babies at the moment

Some really good suggestions - thank you

I have seen on mumsnet before that Ruby is a stripper name like all other gemstone names but I don’t see it that way

I would avoid a gem or colour middle name.
So not Ruby Pearl/Jade/Scarlett etc
Ruby Rae Rsurname is too much.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/11/2018 15:04

So she could potential be Aurora James James Confused or Is she taking after your surname

1busybee · 10/11/2018 15:06

Ruby Beth
Ruby Grace
Ruby Jane

daisypond · 10/11/2018 16:05

I really like Ruby. I'd go for something longer as a middle name and probably quite classic and traditional. Sofia is nice but I'd spell it Sophia unless you've got roots to a country where it's spelled as Sofia.
Elizabeth. Catherine. Eleanor. Alexandra. Marianne. Josephine. Lydia. Beatrice. Selena.

finallychangedmyusername · 10/11/2018 16:25

Ruby Jessica R-name
Ruby Eleanor R-name
Ruby Abigail R-name
Ruby Marianne R-name
Ruby Helena R-name
Ruby Lillian R-name
Ruby Harriet R-name

Ruby Lillian is probably my favourite.

AliceRR · 10/11/2018 16:34

@Awwlookatmybabyspider Sorry meant James is DH first name

So would be Aurora James R_

@daisypond Yes we thought it should be a longer middle name too for Ruby

Love Ruby Marianne and Ruby Alexandra

I love the name Beatrice but think it’s too much of a “b” after Ruby 🤔

DH had suggested Ruby Harriet as well

I said Ruby Scarlett you DH earlier and then realised 😄
