Baby Boy name help! - Hector or Alden?

Meebs · 19/09/2018 23:39

DH and I currently have the two above names as our front runners for our baby due in October. I prefer Alden, yet now DH has informed me he never really liked the name in the first place despite having these 2 in our shortlist for a couple of months.

Firstly, is Hector a popular name now and is it a bit faddy? Don't really want DS to have 5 other little Hector's in his class.

Is Alden 'a bit too weird' as DH would say, or should I push for it?

Any other name suggestions similar to Alden that DH might approve of? Little upset now since I thought I'd get my perfect and preferred name out of the two. Sad (pregnancy hormones not helping)

Thanks!

I am really sorry but they are both awful.
Aldenham is less awful than Hector. Hector is truly appalling.

crunchtime · 19/09/2018 23:41

Alden.

Sophronia · 19/09/2018 23:42

I like both but prefer Hector

DramaAlpaca · 19/09/2018 23:43

Alden is by far the nicest of the two.

Fanjango · 19/09/2018 23:43

Alden. I have an Aiden and that's not too dissimilar and fairly regular. Really not a fan of Hector. Sounds like the name for a hedgehog

Fiveletters · 19/09/2018 23:44

I’m sorry but I don’t like either.
I’ve never heard of Alden but I think it’s slightly better than Hector. I can’t imagine there will be 5 Hectors in a class!

lottiegarbanzo · 19/09/2018 23:48

Alden is really nice.

Never heard of it before and I'm not usually a fan of 'out there' names but actually, that's nice. (Makes we think of Alder, Aiden, Alan Alda, Aspen and Walden).

Hector I don't like. Apart from the 'heckle and shout' meaning, I find it unpleasant sounding and it makes me think of hiccups.

Hector is great

Synecdoche · 20/09/2018 00:03

I've always loved Alden

shirleyschmidt · 20/09/2018 00:05

Hector is a fantastic name! I associate it with Hector of Troy. No contest with Alden!

MarcieBluebell · 20/09/2018 00:11

Alden

annainboots · 20/09/2018 01:13

Whilst it will likely be mistaken for Aiden quite often, I prefer Alden out of those two names by a long shot. Definitely not if your surname is Towers though...

Shadow1234 · 20/09/2018 01:16

Sorry, dont like Hector at all.

Aiden is a nice name,, or Hayden as a close alternative.

MagnaDoodle · 20/09/2018 01:18

Really, neither.

Sorry but both are awful 🙈 I hate saying that to someone but it's true

Hector is so old fashioned, not in a good way. It sounds so harsh too. No associated NNs that I know of either. I reckon he'd hate it , sorry !

Alden.... I've never heard it before so to me it looks made up. Like it's Walden or Aiden spelled incorrectly. I guess it doesn't sound as bad as hector though

TheNumberfaker · 20/09/2018 05:54

Alden will get mistaken for Aiden, which is quite popular.
Hector is a very classic, distinguished name. No contest for me.

olderthanyouthink · 20/09/2018 06:03

I like Auden but it's sort of ruined by a family member

Eleanor90 · 20/09/2018 06:43

I prefer Hector. How about Alban, Auden, Astor, Castor or Holden?

Peachbubble · 20/09/2018 06:46

I like Hector. Alden looks like Aiden, which is a name I don't like.

pilates · 20/09/2018 06:58

Sorry, don’t like either

How about Rex, Jared or Jesse?

Sunflower321 · 20/09/2018 07:15

Alden is a great name!

The meaning of Hector puts me off. To hector is not nice.

dovek123 · 20/09/2018 07:47

Love hector ! Would chose for my own bump but my best friend has a hector !! Anyone like Cecil ? Percy ?

Quangot · 20/09/2018 08:07

I prefer Hector, and also like Alban and Aidan.

I'm afraid I'm not keen on either.
