Has anyone ever heard of someone naming a boy Fox ? Friend wants to use this but not sure it’s a good idea. It’s their choice obviously but would anyone say anything ?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My local scouts group have leaders called by animal names; Kangaroo, Fox, wolf .

I ALWAYS wince at these sort of names, but because I absolutely loved the X-FILES as a 80s teenager for some unknown reason I actually like this one. Also don't think Fox is that 'out there' compared to the variety of names I see in School these days (and I work in secondary where the youngest are 11 so they're not all very recent and yooneek names) - there are way worse than that!

*90s teenager - accidentally aged myself there

DancerOnIce · 16/09/2018 17:45

petulia I wonder if we know the same Fox?! The one I know has an older sister with a perfectly ordinary name. I think it wouldn’t seem so strange if both children had names which are a bit different
I also know a boy with Fox as a middle name. That doesn’t strike me as strange at all. For me, middle names can be practically anything!

Hunter, Fox, Wolf and Bear are becoming popular round here. Following in the footsteps of River and Oakley

ThanksItHasPockets · 16/09/2018 21:59

I somehow know two kids called Wolf. I think if you can have Wolf, you can have Fox.

wouldHAVEshouldHAVEcouldHAVE · 17/09/2018 06:59

I completely forgot I knew a little boy called Wolf, he’s moved away now.
Although his full name was Wolfgang.
Also know a baby Bear.
I think Fox is nicer than those two.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/09/2018 17:25

I like it. It's a very pleasing sounding word in my opinion. I think I would spell it with 2 x's. Foxx.

Almondio · 18/09/2018 17:27

I have an American friend who chose this name for their DS. It's cute as a nickname but for me, it's not a proper name.

MrsRachel85 · 18/09/2018 18:19

I like it, unusual and cool. I wouldn’t be brave enough to use it as a first name though! I do know someone who has just used it though

Skyejuly · 18/09/2018 18:21

I know a baby wolf and 2 Fox. 1 is about 6 and 1 is 2.

kiltedsheep · 18/09/2018 18:33

I do just think of the 'For Fox Sake' mug. So, no.

Just imagine calling him in for dinner. 'Fo-ox! Dinnertime!' You'd sound bloody deranged.

afreshnewname · 18/09/2018 18:46

I love it

abos · 18/09/2018 18:47

I like that it's unusual but I'm not sure I actually like the sound of the name. I prefer the name Bear!
Either way, I think it's a perfectly acceptable name to use:)

Sunflower321 · 18/09/2018 18:48

I think it's cool and strong.

MushroomMushroom · 18/09/2018 19:18

I love it and if I lived on a desert island where no one would judge me and the kid wouldn't have to go to school, the sure, I'd have a little Fox; But in real life, no way, it's stupid.

TSSDNCOP · 18/09/2018 19:25

I think he’s destined for a life where this is the norm:

“Name?”
“Fox”
“I’m sorry?”
“Fox as in sly old”

spinn · 18/09/2018 20:24

I once taught a phox

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 18/09/2018 20:27

I actually don’t hate it, and I’m often a name snob. Sounds very like Rex to me.

Or she could go for Todd, which is the word for fox in old English.

CountFosco · 18/09/2018 20:33

I asked the DC what they think. They think it's a cool name for a child with red hair. So at least you don't have to worry about bullying.

kiltedsheep · 18/09/2018 20:41

@CountFosco talking of names, your screen name scares the hell out of me - Count Fosco is one of the most horrible, despicable literary characters I've ever come across!

BigGreenOlives · 18/09/2018 20:45

We know a female Fox, last year of school.

PhilMitchellsBeard · 18/09/2018 20:47

There is a fox at my DCs secondary. His nickname is foxsake.....

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 19/09/2018 13:30

I met a little boy called Fox. Hippie parents. Seemed to suit him.

PinguDance · 19/09/2018 14:49

There was an x files love in thread on Aibu the other day where this came up - my question is not so much ‘is it a name?’ as ‘is it wrong to name a child after a character you think is abominably sexy?’. I like it, no more made up or silly than half the names on this forum!
