Has anyone ever heard of someone naming a boy Fox ? Friend wants to use this but not sure it’s a good idea. It’s their choice obviously but would anyone say anything ?

No! Definitely an unsuitable first name. You wouldn't call your kid Jackal or Hyena would you? Foxes are scavengers.

Sungura · 16/09/2018 14:29

If it's a surname from, or way to honour one of your ancestors, yes, as a middle name. Otherwise, no.

BigusBumus · 16/09/2018 14:37

My friend loved the name 16 years ago but was too scared to use it as a first name so it is her sons middle name. He's George Fox ………. I think its a great middle name, not sure about a first name though.

Nithead · 16/09/2018 14:37

I absolutely love it. Be prepared for him to be called Fuck though later on

wafflyversatile · 16/09/2018 14:38

I know a boy called fox too.

Sunflower321 · 16/09/2018 14:42

Actually Fox sounds cool and is indeed more interesting than the overused names like Oliver and Jack. It sounds strong and clever.

Mollie85 · 16/09/2018 14:44

I went to school with a boy named Foxen ... no one batted an eyelid Smile

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 16/09/2018 14:50

Fox sake!

starzig · 16/09/2018 15:00

I love it.

thinkfast · 16/09/2018 15:00

I love it. Then the sibling could be called Ray, or Pigeon or Cockroach or something

thinkfast · 16/09/2018 15:01

*Rat not Ray

Rebecca36 · 16/09/2018 15:03

OP, is your surname Hunter?

No, really, Fox is OK as a surname, no-one bats an eyelid at that but as a first name it's grim.

Names are important, don't give your child one that might embarrass him as he gets older.

WeeMadArthur · 16/09/2018 15:05

I know a boy called Fox. Is your friend prepared to have her house overrun by fox themed presents, because they will be. It’s cute for the first few birthdays but now they have to ask for no more fox themed presents!

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 16/09/2018 15:22

Fox to me means sexy. No.

PassportBridgetPants · 16/09/2018 15:28

This is your friend's child not yours right? Re your question 'would anyone say anything?' I wouldn't, not in a million years. Not my place.

lecossaise · 16/09/2018 15:29

You could spell it Fawkes? (I quite like surnames as first names though...)

Sunflower321 · 16/09/2018 15:29

Oh, your friend is considering it? Definitely up to her and I wouldn't say anything.

lecossaise · 16/09/2018 15:30

Oh wait it's your friend. No don't say anything then!

Growingboys · 16/09/2018 15:31

It's pretentious. That designer Alice Temperley called her son Fox I think. QED.

Rocki · 16/09/2018 15:43

Thank you

I know a Fox, just the one

zeeboo · 16/09/2018 15:46

I LOVE it!

PetuliaBlavatsky · 16/09/2018 15:50

I know a Fox too, strikes me as a bit of a daft name but of course no one says anything irl. He has a sibling with a perfectly ordinary name too, which makes it even odder.

SelinaMyers · 16/09/2018 15:56

Taught a Fox- he would be in his mid teens now. His last name made him sound like a children’s book character:
