Is Joseph a bit dull/boring?

Hi, we had sort of decided on Joseph for our DS due in next few weeks. We don’t mind if it gets shortened to Joe as like that too! However, I’m now having some second thoughts, a friend said she thought it was a bit dull and there are lots of Josephs/Joes. I do know quite a few older men with the name but few children. There are none in my other DS’s class or our wider circle of friends. We do like Oliver and Tom too but they’re very popular around our area. Would be interested in your honest opinions before we choose. Is Joseph a bit ‘meh’?

I love Joseph/Joe.

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/09/2018 18:17

It's lovely, classic not dull.

DollyDayScream · 08/09/2018 18:17

I think it's a wonderful name for a baby, for a boy and for a man.

Simple and strong, it will never date or be considered "common".

Aintgottimetobleed · 08/09/2018 18:18

It's a good, solid name.

Pollyeon · 08/09/2018 18:18

I love it!! I love it so much that even if half of all boys were called Joseph, I'd still name my son that

MagicFajita · 08/09/2018 18:19

It's a beautiful , classic name.

TatianaLarina · 08/09/2018 18:20

Yes it is very popular, as are Tom and Oliver.

But then some people feel safer with common names.

Rayn · 08/09/2018 18:20

I have a Joseph but he is called Joey!

maitaimojito · 08/09/2018 18:20

I love it.

Much prefer it to Oliver and Tom. There are loads of Oliver’s around.

Livedandlearned2 · 08/09/2018 18:22

I have a Joseph, can be Joe, Joey, Joseph or joefish ( sibling nickname)

OliveBranchManager · 08/09/2018 18:23

I like it.

ToBeARockAndNotToRoll · 08/09/2018 18:27

Best name ever may be biased Wink

Not met another yet!

Muggins123 · 08/09/2018 18:31

I have a Joseph and he gets Joe - I love it

itbemay · 08/09/2018 18:36

I have a Joseph too! Joe always but it's a great name Smile he's a teen now and there's not that many called joe in his school

Corcra · 08/09/2018 18:46

It’s a beautiful name.

DramaAlpaca · 08/09/2018 18:48

It's a beautiful, classic name. Nothing dull about it.

Agustarella · 08/09/2018 18:48

Not a fan of Biblical names in general, but Joseph is quite nice. I don't think you can really go wrong with it.

abbie9 · 08/09/2018 18:49

Love Joseph.

serenmoon · 08/09/2018 18:52

I really like it and I don’t know any children with it so don’t think it’s used that much.

TenThousandSpoons · 08/09/2018 18:54

It’s not dull at all, it’s lovely. If you do want a more unusual Joe you could have Jonas or Jonah.

cricketmum84 · 08/09/2018 19:03

I have a Joseph. Slightly biased but I think it's a lovely name. He is a teen now and been a Joe for a few years. There are another 2 Joseph's in his class but it doesn't bother him.

ShadyLady53 · 08/09/2018 19:05

It used to be my favourite boy’s name but then I met a man called Joseph who was the first person to ever bore me to tears. That’s the only thing that’s put me off the name, otherwise I’d still see it as a classic, good, strong name.

Joss can also be a nickname for Joseph. Josiah is a more interesting alternative, the one I know is nicknamed Joey. Jude is quite cool too.

lostlalaloopsy · 08/09/2018 20:13

I have a Joe. He is the only one in his whole school. I love his name and it almost seems unusual in amongst a sea of Finlays and Rileys (both of which are very nice!)

Rosie2boys · 08/09/2018 20:14

Thanks for the replies so far, they have put my mind at rest a bit. We’ll keep considering other names ( I must keep looking here for ideas!) but Joseph is definitely the front runner.

I like it. Maybe she meant it's a little 'safe' rather than 'boring'. It's actually a good name with so many variations to it. Joe is good.
