Opinions on the name Effie (girl)?

Treaclepie19 · 05/09/2018 16:35

I like it :)

MyDoctor · 05/09/2018 16:39

Bit a la mode for me, like Katniss etc. Aoife is a more traditional name, quite similar sounding.

girlandboy · 05/09/2018 16:41

Not keen, sorry.

Sounds too near to "No effin' way" kind of thing.

User12345677777 · 05/09/2018 16:44

Love it!

Liquoricelake · 05/09/2018 16:44

I'm not a fan for the exact reason that GirlandBoy said. Plus it sounds unfinished to me. Very much like a nickname and not a 'real' name.

Sunflower321 · 05/09/2018 16:56

I like it. Reminds me of Effie Briest.

Icklepup · 05/09/2018 17:00

I like it

Sunflower321 · 05/09/2018 17:03

Actually it's Effi Briest

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 05/09/2018 17:06

I would assume nn for Eiffel Tower!

OzymandiasFanClub · 05/09/2018 17:07

There's a teenage Effie on my road.
Quite like it- does it derive from Euphemia?
I think the name might prompt a bit of mild mannered teasing but she can roll her eyes and tell them to Effie Off.

campion · 05/09/2018 17:08

It's short for Euphemia.
I used to work with someone called Effie. She was v nice so I like it

SlowlyShrinking · 05/09/2018 17:25

I’m not keen. It sounds like ‘effin’ and also just sounds a bit daft (imo)

MariaMadita · 05/09/2018 17:56

I like it. But Euphemia is one of my gp names, so there's that :)

Cbeebiesrehab · 05/09/2018 18:23

It’s my daughters name :) (nn for Evelyn) only ever had positive reactions!

ChubbyMummy12 · 05/09/2018 18:25

Love it. And Essie

Septembermummy1 · 05/09/2018 18:30

I think it's nice as a nickname Smile

Sandstormbrewing · 05/09/2018 18:34

As a shortening of Euphemia, Iphigenia or Evelyn it's fine but I don't consider it a name in and of itself. But names change and develop all the time so it could be!

It's a bit swearing sounding to be a name of its own.

Rebecca36 · 05/09/2018 18:50

It's short for Euphemia.

Cbeebiesrehab · 05/09/2018 18:52

Rebecca it can be short for a number of names.

NastyCats · 05/09/2018 18:53

For example, Persephone.

I know two Effies and bizarrely they look really similar. They are about 7.

sohypnotic · 05/09/2018 18:53

Love it. We have a cat named effy, kinda gutted as now I can't use it for any future daughters lol

NorthEndGal · 05/09/2018 18:55

Ephdehia is also shortened to Ephie/Effie

TheFutureMrsB · 05/09/2018 18:55

It's a great name.

toothtruth · 05/09/2018 18:55

If its short for Euphemia. I do love that name. Reminds me of Euphemia Gray the Pre-Raphaelite muse.
On its own it does seem a bit sweary....

Susannach · 05/09/2018 18:55

Like it. Very sweet.
