I personally think of someone stubborn, intelligent and a little bit mischievous but would like to hear your thoughts?

I know a 1 year old Margot by the way!

bombcyclone · 31/08/2018 15:41

It's also a name considered elegant across most European/Antipodean and North/South American cultures. (Which is key, because a Margot will travel widely, of course.)

Sunflower321 · 31/08/2018 15:56

Actually, Margot is pronounced Mar-gott in Germany, Scandinavia, Austria, Holland etc and is a very unfashionable name. I wouldn't say it travels well at all!

bombcyclone · 31/08/2018 16:47

Actually, I think that that rather depends on the Germans, Austrians and Scandinavians one socialises with.

bombcyclone · 31/08/2018 16:49

And as for the rest, what is in good taste and what is fashionable are often rather different things, no?

Lucy1103 · 31/08/2018 21:00

bombcyclone couldn’t have put that second post better

Lucy & Madison, yes it's not the silent 't' that makes it sound harsh to me, it's the hard 'g' in the middle, and I also don't like the look of it written down.

I'm sorry I was rude about it last night though, there was no need for my snippy comment Blush

Lucy1103 · 31/08/2018 21:59

Haha there was no offence taken, it was funny jaguarana. Anyway I am asking for opinions after all

Clever, glamorous in an unconventional way, a bit of a rebel, kind. The sort of girl who as a teenager could be in the cool girls' clique but chooses not to.

Felton · 01/09/2018 05:08

The only Margot I know is your classic pretty, popular mean girl, and not very bright.

Unlike her older sister, who is interesting, kind, articulate and an all round lovely girl.

Felton · 01/09/2018 05:08

Margot to me is therefore someone who is attractive on the outside but not on the inside.

cjukesy · 06/09/2018 17:09

Rebellious. Kindred spirit in a way.

DC06 · 07/09/2018 10:33

I'd think of quite a serious, bookish girl with big soulful brown eyes and red hair x

AuntGertrude · 07/09/2018 20:56

Because of Margot Frank, a serious bookish girl.
Margot Fonteyn - classy and sophisticated.
Margot Robbie - pretty and go-ahead

A lovely name

(In The Good Life it was spelled Margo).

Sunflower321 · 08/09/2018 07:56

Outside of France, Margo works better if you prefer that pronunciation.

Spelled Margot, it would be pronounced Mar-gott in many countries outside France.

SoyDora · 08/09/2018 09:09

I have never heard anyone pronounce it Marg-ott, and I know a few in the UK (and one in Spain)

Singlenotsingle · 08/09/2018 09:15

Margot Leadbetter from the Good Life

Sarahandduck18 · 08/09/2018 09:18

Anne Frank’s sister

Sunflower321 · 08/09/2018 10:50

It's in Germanic and Nordic speaking countries where it's pronounced Mar-gott.

LoveAGoodChat · 08/09/2018 10:53

I always think of Anne Frank's sister Margot when I hear the name Margot, it is a lovely name and I do like Anne's sister, Smile

deptfordgirl · 08/09/2018 11:30

Posh, blonde, high-achieving.

I think it's sweet.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 08/09/2018 12:01

Naughty Margot Maynard from the Chalet School is the first that springs to mind, but then the lovely Margot Frank, too. Then Margo "Go" Dunne from Gone Girl who is at least a very supportive sister and strong woman even if her DB & SiL are ghastly.

I really like the name. It has an air about it. The comedienne Jessie Cave has a Margot, too. Smile

Shadow1234 · 08/09/2018 16:15

I actually think it has an interlectual tone to it, but would it
End up being shortened to 'Marge' because that would be a game changer for me!
