I love Murdo, but DH ruled it out for a future son as we aren’t aren’t a member of the Scottish aristocracy.

Not keen on Dupre at all.

Changedmynametoolikeyou · 28/08/2018 21:46

What are you naming?

WildCherryBlossom · 28/08/2018 21:46

I prefer Sholto

Justmuddlingalong · 28/08/2018 21:48

Murdo. It's an all ages name. I went to school with a Murdo. He was a lovely fella. I'm in Scotland so it's not totally unheard of here, but not really common.

RedDwarves · 28/08/2018 21:51

Don't like either, but I met a beagle called Murdo in a pub in Pitlochry, so I've warmed to that slightly more. It doesn't work unless you're Scottish/have a Scottish accent though.

TapTapTo · 28/08/2018 21:53

We are Scottish.
I know a couple of each but all older.

Murdo is a good strong name

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/08/2018 22:02

Murdo reminds me of murder!

BushyTailedPony · 28/08/2018 22:06

Murdo is ok but v Scottish so needs to go with surname.
Dupre. It's a no from me.

triwarrior · 28/08/2018 22:08

Love Murdo!

bloated1977 · 28/08/2018 22:11

For a pet or a baby?

AtlantaGinandTonic · 28/08/2018 22:15

I've never heard of either name but quite like Murdo! I like the ring it has!

kenandbarbie · 28/08/2018 22:20

I wouldn't be keen on either, not being Scottish.

RamonaQuimbyage38 · 28/08/2018 22:20

Murdo is ace. Know loads of them from the western isles. But it really needs that strong R, so don't ever take him south of the border...

biscuitmillionaire · 28/08/2018 22:25

That's a fantastic name for the hero of a crime novel...

Detective Inspector Murdo Dupre took a sip of his coffee, then picked up the phone and dialled. 'Hello, Dupre here, what have you got for me?'.

TapTapTo · 28/08/2018 22:26

We do have a very Scottish surname which is half the problem as a lot of the names we like just don't go with it Hmm

Fadingmemory · 28/08/2018 22:26

Murdo! There may be mispronunciation with Dupre. Presume correct form is Dewpree (sorry if not) but you may get Dewper, Dewpra, Dewpr etc. Just a thought...

TatianaLarina · 28/08/2018 22:28

Prefer Sholto too, in fact it’s one of my fav names.

Golde · 28/08/2018 22:28

There's been a Murdo.

Sorry, OP I couldn't resist.

I do actually really like it though.

DramaAlpaca · 28/08/2018 22:29

I'm sorry, but I don't like either of them at all.

thisonehasalittlecar · 28/08/2018 22:34

Not heard of Dupre, where is it from?

TapTapTo · 28/08/2018 22:35

There seems to be a pretty clear preference for Murdo then
Out of curiosity, what is it people don't like about Dupre?

OP posts:
TapTapTo · 28/08/2018 22:37

Not entirely sure where the name Dupre is from but the two I've known are from Orkney and Aberdeen

AnEPleaseBob · 28/08/2018 22:38

Dupre is French, not Scottish, and means "of the meadow". Nothing even vaguely scottish about it. And its a surname!

They are both hideous, but at least Murdo is traditional Scottish. I'd spell it properly though, Murchadh.

UrsulaPandress · 28/08/2018 22:41

Murdo

Dupre sounds like a shmansy French tennis player.
