We’ve got two girls and are so lucky to be having a boy....we’ve picked Xander! Anyone else have a Xander? What do you shorten it too? Thinking Bobby for a middle name xx

Would you not put Alexander on the birth certificate. I know one and it does get a few eye rolls

Given that Xander is a shortening how can it have a shortening of it's own? Personally while I think that Alexander Robert would be a great name Xander Bobby seems a bit weird. Bobby is a nickname surely?

I know two Xanders in RL and only one of those is Alexander in full.

Sometimes shortened even further to Xan (to rhyme with 'van') and the TV doctor shortens to Xand.

Nope. Alexander on birth cert would be ok, that way he has the choice to be Alex, Alexander or Xander when he's older. Also Alexander Bobby works better than Xander Bobby.

I think Xander is fine, but you need a whole name for the middle name, Bobby doesn’t flow at all.

My DSS is a Xander, & I think because I'm not his mum people feel they can be more honest about what they think about the name, it certainly gets a few raised eyebrows & most people think it's spelled with a Z! It never gets shortened.

Not a name I'd personally choose but if you love it then go for it 🙂 have to agree with PP however that Bobby doesn't really work as middle name. Robert is better though I know you're not keen. I think it works quite well with something more classic & a bit longer; how about William?

William is a possibility as that’s my father In Laws name,I just don’t like Alexander or Robert 🤢 we did think about spelling it with a Z,we know someone else whose little boy is spelt like that but decided on the traditional way xx

Worth bearing in mind with Jaxx that there'd be a lot of X's in the name with Xander as well! Xander Jaxx, not sure about it on paper, depends what you think though 🙂

Xander is a shortened name already so not sure you can shorten it further.

Xander is ok on its own - a lot of people will assume it's Alexander though, so be prepared for that.

I'd definitely go for three syllables or more for a middle name. I think Jax is a bit harsh. William is lovely. Choosing a family name is also a great idea for a middle name.

Xander Bobby sounds awful. Xander William is better. Alexander William is much better as an official name though. Nobody even needs to know that’s his official name. Only you need to go to register him if youre married.

Jaxx is just awful and suggests uneducated parents.

We have a Xander. It's a lovely name.
We shortened it when he was tiny but now we don't tend to. Just add pet names to it.
