Found out that my baby is going to be a beautiful little girl💖 had my mind set on a name and now all of a sudden my mind has changed and I absolutely love WINTER with the middle name either Violet or Blossom (both have family history so please no nasty comments about the middle names) I love it but I don't know how other people will react , opinions please xxxx

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Awful, sorry.

Cold, dreary, 'wintry mix'. Also, not a first name: what if she ends up with a partner whose surname is Winter?

Firtreefir · 12/08/2018 16:11

I think that as Winter is a word with its own meaning, it sounds very cheesy/twee/childish (also, in the case of Violet slightly porn star-ish) when paired with another name that is also a word. Especially when the other name also has a nature related meaning.

Winter Violet and Winter Blossom are both awful and over the top. If you're using Winter, then pair it with a normal name that is just a name (with no meaning).

E.g. Winter Elizabeth
Winter Chloe
Winter Jane

YaLoVeras · 12/08/2018 16:12

I half like it. But.........not quite.

What about Winnie?

kaylanelson · 12/08/2018 16:13

@Firtreefir so I guess you don't like names such as 'summer' and 'autumn' .. and as I said in the thread the middle names have a meaning that is why I am using them and I think they sound beautiful with winter ☺️

I love the name Winter .... Winter was on our list for boys ... i think it could work for a girls name too.

kaylanelson · 12/08/2018 16:14

@YaLoVeras this is another reason we like the name as my boyfriends nan was named Winnie and we could use that as a nickname ☺️

@runningscare aw thank you! I do really love it , we also really like it for a boy as well ☺️

I like Winnie!

I don't dislike Winter, it's a proceed with caution name though. I think it needs a normal name in the middle, agree with a pp. What's the sur name? Or give a sur name with a similar pattern. ie, if it's wilson say robson. If it's Stone say Stack

babypsmum · 12/08/2018 16:17

Love it!!

DickensianHysteric · 12/08/2018 16:18

I don't like it, sorry. What was the name you had originally chosen?

Biddlyboo · 12/08/2018 16:19

I’m sorry, I think Winter would be lovely but Game of Thrones has ruined it for you.

Pearlton · 12/08/2018 16:19

I love it! I think Winter Violet is beautiful and might even steal that name for any future children of my own. Winter Blossom is a pretty name too. If you like it, go for it! I also think pairing Winter with a more widely used name as the previous poster said also works - I like Winter Charlotte, Winter Margot and Winter Elizabeth 😀

Firtreefir · 12/08/2018 16:19

I don't dislike the names Winter/Summer/Autumn. I actually really like the name Summer. I just think they need to be paired with normal, meaningless middle names.

To me, the pairings Winter Violet and Winter Blossom are both very childish and over the top, although I like all the names individually (my dd is a Violet).

Firtreefir · 12/08/2018 16:19

And you asked for opinions!

CurlyTwirlyTwos · 12/08/2018 16:20

I love it with Blossom OP!

AfterSchoolWorry · 12/08/2018 16:20

Winter? As in bleak, bare trees and cold, grey, monotonous, depressing misery?
It's not good OP.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/08/2018 16:22

I shouldn't like it ( due to me usually liking only classic names ) but I do.

Winter Isabella
Winter Alice
Winter Rosalind
Winter Eleanor
Winter Madeleine

NotUmbongoUnchained · 12/08/2018 16:25

I love it. It’s my favourite season and would have had it if my daughter had been a winter baby.
My best friends DD is Winter Rain and it really suits her.

kaylanelson · 12/08/2018 16:25

@GreatDuckCookery aw thank you! And winter Isabella was in the running however it just didn't have as much meaning compared to blossom and violet 🙈🙈 My great Nan was named blossom and we where incredibly close as I barely saw my nan as she lived in the other side of the country and violet is my boyfriends nans name ☺️☺️

RavenWings · 12/08/2018 16:26

Winter Blossom and Winter Violet both sound like shades of paint. I'm not against them as middle names but the combinations are absolutely awful.

Names that could have Winnie as a nickname: Winona, Anwen, Arwen (maybe too LOTR), Olwen, Gwendolyn, Rowena, Quinn... I'm not really a fan of a lot of these (aside from first 3) but they might appeal.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/08/2018 16:26

Winter Blossom is lovely. Especially as Blossom has such a lovely sentiment.

RavenWings · 12/08/2018 16:28

And I have to agree with Firtree. If you ask for opinions, there is no point in being upset when opinions are what you get.

kaylanelson · 12/08/2018 16:29

@RavenWings I wasnt getting upset I was just making the point that my thread said please no nasty comments about the middle names as these will 100% be the middle names

OP posts:
juneau · 12/08/2018 16:29

I think Winter would work better as the middle name, Violet Winter sounds fine to me, whereas I agree that Winter Violet sounds like a paint colour (as does Winter Blossom). And no, I'm not a huge fan of months or seasons as names. Winter just makes me think of cold and chilly, which aren't traits I'd want associated with my DD as a first impression.

AgathaRaisonDetra · 12/08/2018 16:29

Winter is coming!!!!

That can be interpreted in so many different ways. You know nothing OP.
