Evangeline or Alexa?

Hi, am new on here but thought I’d give starting a thread a go as I’ve been loving reading the baby name ones Smile Me and DH both love Evangeline and Alexa but are having problems choosing between them. Whilst I love how beautiful Evangeline is I’m worried it’s a bit long and frilly whereas Alexa (nn Lexie) gives the impression (at least to me) of someone strong. Middle name would be Violet, although this isn’t set in stone, and would love to hear what you guys think

Alexa is the name on Amazon’s Echo and Dot devices, I would give that a miss!

Icklepup · 07/08/2018 16:34

Evangeline

Aprilshowersinaugust · 07/08/2018 16:38

Def not Alexa, reason as pp said.

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 16:39

Haha I’m aware but I haven’t seen people go mad for the things and I just think it’s a shame to allow a name to die out because of Amazon Blush but I guess she may get some stick for it

Evangeline

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 16:39

Now 2 people have said it I guess she’ll definitely get stick for it XD

@aprilshowersinaugust I understand your reasoning behind Alexa but would you say Evangeline is too fussy?

Evangeline with Eva for a NN is lovely

IVEgotthePOWER · 07/08/2018 16:51

Alexis maybe?

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/08/2018 16:52

I know an Evangeline who is Evie, it’s very pretty and unusual. Alexa sounds like a device.

Glaciferous · 07/08/2018 16:55

Evangeline. Alexa sounds really dated. Ditto Alexis.

pilates · 07/08/2018 16:56

Definitely Evangeline, lovely

CointreauVersial · 07/08/2018 16:59

How about Alexia as a slight variation?

Evangeline is a nice name, but will always be shortened, which would drive me potty. I know two Evangelines. One is shortened to Evie, and one is called Geli.

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:00

@cointreauversial would be great but it being a disorder really puts me off :) The shortening would be fine with me as long as it’s Eva and not Evie who was a really nasty girl in my class at school Grin

My DH has just suggested we put Violet up in the shortlist of first names and was wondering what you all think about that compared to Evangeline. (I’ll regard Alexa as ruled out)

Evangeline is lovely!

SmilingButClueless · 07/08/2018 17:03

Evangeline’s nice.

Definitely not Alexa for the reasons PPs have said. You could use Alexandra instead if you love the nickname Lexie?

barneymcgroo · 07/08/2018 17:04

I wanted Evangeline, Vanina or Nina as a NN. Go for it!

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:09

@barneymcgroo ooh hadn’t thought about Nina as a nn, love that!!

OP posts:
Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:10

@smilingbutclueless Alexandra’s always made me imagine horse obsessed snob. Sorry to any Alexandra’s! But thank you for the suggestion x may have to just let Lexie go

I'm confused....Is Alexia a disorder?? Like Dyslexia?

RavenWings · 07/08/2018 17:11

Evangeline - lovely but just blends into the pack of Eva/Evie/Ava etc names.
Not madly keen on Alexa, I think it's a bit nothingy but it's better than the Eva horde.

RavenWings · 07/08/2018 17:12

Violet is nice.

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:15

@cointreauversial yes it’s apparently another disorder that affects reading but usually caused after an injury

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:15

@ravenwings Violet any better?
