Picked an unusual-ish name and now regret it, should I change her name?

Hi, really struggling here, so don't be too harsh. Tried talking to my mum about it and got "you had 9 months to name her, then a further few weeks" Confused I know that. I did spend ages and ages going through names, but there wasn't any that I absolutely fell in love with, the name I ended up going with cane to me from watching a horror TV series, which I'd never admit! Blush it's not unusual, unusual, but you don't hear it much now. It's in the 300ths for names, so it is known... I haven't had 1 positive response "oh" is my most common response, followed by "it doesn't matter what she's called, she's beautiful" to try and cover up the fact they hate it. I just seem to be regretting it a lot, the more and more I look at her, the less I like it and the more I start to think I can't have you with that name, etc.

It would be changed to Olivia.

I love the name Audrey, it was on my list of names for a girl.

AtomicGlitterBomb · 04/07/2018 06:53

My niece is Audrey, she is nicknamed Rey by her friends and often gets calls Dee too but mostly goes by her full name at school and with family.

She’s 14 and likes her name, she considers Audrey Hepburn to be her namesake icon.

Daddynosharing · 04/07/2018 06:57

Audrey is beautiful! I’d keep it!

FuelledByButter · 04/07/2018 06:57

Audrey was on my list for my babies. It's a great name.

Yutes · 04/07/2018 06:58

Don’t let silly people put you off a name. You liked it when you chose it, so only change it if you’re really feeling that she doesn’t suit it or you still don’t like it.

I really like the name Audrey. I think it suits both child and woman and very classy.

sarcasmisnotthelowestformofwit · 04/07/2018 07:02

Please don't change it. Audrey is beautiful an original. Olivia is a very pretty name but so so so so common now.

Chimchar · 04/07/2018 07:03

Audrey is a brilliant name!

I know a grown up one who is known as Aud.

I would probably use the nn Audie for a teeny baby, but I also like the nn Rey as someone else suggested.

It's very weird naming kids...it's like naming an empty vessel, and then watching this little tiny human grow into it as you start to see their character.... I'm sure very soon, your Audrey will become her name.

HappyLollipop · 04/07/2018 07:03

Audrey is beautiful and the nn Rey is great especially now with the Star Wars connection!

ScreenQueen · 04/07/2018 07:05

Audrey's lovely (and I say that as someone that doesn't even like Hepburn) Dee and Rey are both lovely names. Much nicer than Olivia imho. Keep it!

If you want a Chang for daily use is there a middle name? Or if not can you giver her one? Rose would go beautifully.

FatBarry · 04/07/2018 07:06

At first I thought "ugh that's from my mum's era, it's like Barbara or Shirley or Brenda" but then I thought actually Audrey Hepburn and kept saying it, and it's absolutely lovely, the more you hear it in he current times the less I associate it with a nannas name.

Keep it.

FrozenMargarita17 · 04/07/2018 07:07

I actually love the name Audrey

drearydeardre · 04/07/2018 07:08

I am an Audrey - not a deardre and I am glad I have such a nice name although as a child it was quite unusual and it morphs well into a grown up name. It is much more popular in N America and pronounced in a slightly different way,
Only reservation I have had about it is the shortening to Aud which I detest and I always insist on my full name. A shortened form of a name is not a requisite. Many of us go through life being addressed by our full name. My nickname in childhood was unrelated to 'Audrey'.

loveisland · 04/07/2018 07:13

Au? Or audy?

justilou1 · 04/07/2018 07:14

Audrey's gorgeous. People are fucking rude.

Daisydukes79 · 04/07/2018 07:15

Audrey is a lovely name 💕💕💕

drearydeardre · 04/07/2018 07:16

keep the name, keep it in full - it is heaps less 'granny' than Emily, Elsie or Edith.

auntyflonono · 04/07/2018 07:17

I had a name wobble at about the same time, I am glad I kept my original choice now.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 04/07/2018 07:19

Audrey is an ace name. I know a teenage Audrey and she suits it I’ve always loved her name.
You could say it was after Audrey Hepburn.

PickleJuice · 04/07/2018 07:20

In a world full of Olivia's, be an Audrey Grin

I love it.

Icecreamandpineapple · 04/07/2018 07:22

OP don't change your daughter's name just to appease others,.like your mum.
Audrey is your daughter and you chose the name you love, and quite rightly!

As others have said, Audrey is a.beautiful name and I really do think if you change it, especially to an extremely common and so over used name, you're going to regret it.

malfoyy · 04/07/2018 07:23

Audrey is a lovely name.

Olivia is very commonly used at the moment.

I wouldn't change it.

JobHunting4 · 04/07/2018 07:23

Well I love it too. Reminds me of Audrey from dawsons creek who shared a room with joey at college. I liked her.
I suppose it depends on the area you live, but I would personally stick it out if you really like it.

GreatThingsWork · 04/07/2018 07:23

I also love Audrey. Please keep it!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 04/07/2018 07:24

I love Audrey, it makes me think of Audrey Tautou. Agree people are fucking rude. When my “D”M held my DD for the first time and we’d told her the name we’d chosen she put on her best sucking lemons face and said “well, I suppose you can’t choose what ^they* call your Grandchildren”. Shock

user546425732 · 04/07/2018 07:27

Audrey - Audrey Tatou, Audrey Hepburn. Lovely name, keep it.

There are lots of girls called Olivia, it's not exactly interesting.
