Picked an unusual-ish name and now regret it, should I change her name?

Hi, really struggling here, so don't be too harsh. Tried talking to my mum about it and got "you had 9 months to name her, then a further few weeks" Confused I know that. I did spend ages and ages going through names, but there wasn't any that I absolutely fell in love with, the name I ended up going with cane to me from watching a horror TV series, which I'd never admit! Blush it's not unusual, unusual, but you don't hear it much now. It's in the 300ths for names, so it is known... I haven't had 1 positive response "oh" is my most common response, followed by "it doesn't matter what she's called, she's beautiful" to try and cover up the fact they hate it. I just seem to be regretting it a lot, the more and more I look at her, the less I like it and the more I start to think I can't have you with that name, etc.

It would be changed to Olivia.

I love Audrey. It was crossed off my list of names for dd because I wanted a name that sounds similar in French and English as dh is French. Audrey sounds very heavy in French. I would keep Audrey if I were you. Olivia is prolific right now. I also picked a more unusual name and probably in the top 300 too. There are 3 Olivia’s in dds year at school. She’s 10.

If you do choose to change her name then it is simple to do within a year of registering her birth. If she is going to be baptised get a form from the register office and get the minister to complete it showing her new name or fill in a form at the register office yourself. The name at the top of the birth certificate will stay the same but the space at the bottom will show her new name and that will be used by the passport office etc . It is easy but it needs to be done within the first year.

I quite like Audrey though .

My niece is called Audrey and she's so cool! It suits her to a tee. There's one Audrey is our local school too. Please don't change it - it's a great name, very classy and I'm sure it'll have a surge of popularity soon ... and you were one of the first there!

KERALA1 · 04/07/2018 06:15

Audrey is great. Olivia is this generation's Sarah all charm drained away through over use.

ellesbellesxxx · 04/07/2018 06:15

I love it.. I find it elegant and chic!

Fflamingo · 04/07/2018 06:16

I have a d. U. L. L name - all my life this dull not even pretty name. Stick with the unusual one .

BlueBell50 · 04/07/2018 06:16

Sorry, meant to say it all needs to be done at the register office, don’t just write it in yourself. Smile There is a charge of £40

MargotMoon · 04/07/2018 06:17

I love Audrey!! Please don't change it Smile

Charolais · 04/07/2018 06:18

Audrey is a lovely name.

shakeyourcaboose · 04/07/2018 06:18

Love Audrey! Keep it!!

DevilsDoorbell · 04/07/2018 06:19

Love Audrey

BlueLegume · 04/07/2018 06:22

Please don’t change her name, Audrey is beautiful plus I only know one Audrey and she is one of the loveliest people I know, almost as though because she was named after Audrey Hepburn she has cultivated her elegance.

BlueLegume · 04/07/2018 06:23

Also there are just far far too many Olivia’s. It’s a name that grates in me now although I once quite liked it.

Oysterbabe · 04/07/2018 06:24

Audrey is a gorgeous name, don't change it. Especially not to Olivia which is beyond dull.

pilotswife · 04/07/2018 06:25

Audrey is divine - every second girl is Olivia in Australia

TheCosmicOwl · 04/07/2018 06:35

Audrey is a lovely name and a million times better than Olivia (which is also nice, but so popular it's a little dull now).

Bingpot · 04/07/2018 06:38

Audrey is a gorgeous name OP! Way more interesting than Olivia which is also lovely but prefer Audrey

HappyPumpkin81 · 04/07/2018 06:38

I love the name Audrey and think you should keep it. I had a wobble. Over me daughter's name when she was about 3-4 months old and wasn't sure it suited her but she is 8 months today and is growing into it.

Also when my friend told me she was naming her baby 'Iris' my reaction was a barely lukewarm 'that's nice' while inside I was thinking 'why would you give your beautiful little baby an old granny name.' Now Iris is 4, she is a fantastic fierce little girl and her name suits her beautifully and my initial thoughts were so wrong.

BellMcEnd · 04/07/2018 06:39

I know 2 teenage Audreys. It’s a fabulous name and far nicer (imo) that Olivia. It was in our list but we had boys.

strawberrypenguin · 04/07/2018 06:41

Audrey is a lovely name. Elegant and classic.

Peachbubble · 04/07/2018 06:44

I really like Audrey, much more than Olivia. I'd keep her name as Audrey, she'll 'grow' into it, and you'll find a nn to suit if that's what you want.

Laineymc7 · 04/07/2018 06:44

I like Audrey too. It’s lovely. X

psicat · 04/07/2018 06:45

I was expecting something awful! Audrey is a lovely name. Can be ree or rae for short but it's lovely in full.

I chose my DS's name from a TV show, I just liked the name (have never told anyone that Blush).

user1499173618 · 04/07/2018 06:46

Audrey is beautiful!

reddressblueshoes · 04/07/2018 06:52

I know a little two year old Audrey and when she was born family responded with 'oh' but it really was just because you don't hear it so much nowadays- she's gorgeous and I think it's becoming more popular, but without reaching the level of popularity of Olivia.

It will take people time to get used to it, and depends a bit where you live, but it definitely won't be a name that will cause her any problems. I think it was a really good choice (and I'm also struggling with girls names at the moment so I understand how hard it is!)
