Final cut - but i have lost the power of decision

Third boy due any day and for my own sanity we need to decide on a name or two (i don't want to wait and see what he looks like). Here is our short list. We already have a William & Joseph.

In abc order rather than preference:

Albert (Albie/Bertie) - will i get looks? Bit "out there"?
Daniel (Dan/Danny)
Douglas (Dougie) - not same style/not sure goes with first 2
Edward (Ed/Eddie)
George (dunno)
Lucas (Luke?) - not same style/not sure it goes with first 2
Stanley (Stan) - bit harsh?
Timothy (Tim) DH not too keen.

It's so difficult! I just don't love any!

Edward!

Hopeful16 · 27/06/2018 20:25

I love the name Douglas and nn Dougie but how do people view it in light of the cartoon? I would worry about him being follow by a stream of "Hey Dougie!" calls wherever he goes.

DiegoMadonna · 27/06/2018 20:51

I think Edward goes best with your other two boys' names

Glumglowworm · 27/06/2018 21:23

Daniel is one of my favourite boys names so that would be my choice

Second and third would be George and Edward

loubielou31 · 27/06/2018 21:29

You could have a Robert and nn him Bertie?

I like Edward nn ted. Daniel is good too. Edward Daniel or Daniel Edward go well together as middle names.

Ikeameatballs · 27/06/2018 21:31

I love Daniel.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/06/2018 22:13

Definitely Daniel.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 27/06/2018 22:19

Am I allowed to say that I actually think that Benjamin would go best with William an Joseph?
Will, Joe and Ben?
No?
OK then, I choose Edward or Daniel.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/06/2018 22:23

Daniel

Or Kit, Tom, or Sam

buttercup54321 · 27/06/2018 22:27

Daniel is my favourite from your list.

Chocmallows · 27/06/2018 22:28

Will, Joe and Tom
Would get my vote.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 27/06/2018 23:08

Daniel.

Or Thomas or Samuel.

Joeybee · 27/06/2018 23:15

Albert (Albie/Bertie) - I don't think it's out there. A lot of 'old-man' names are coming back into Vogue now. I love Albert, it's on my list too. Bertie is the most fantastic nickname too.
Daniel (Dan/Danny) - YES. Love this name. It's classic, timeless, and now, not overly popular.
Douglas (Dougie) - More a middle name.
Edward (Ed/Eddie) - Love this name, but it's getting really popular, and is becoming a bit boring.
George (dunno) - LOVE George, but yeah no nickname potential, which puts me off a little.
Lucas (Luke?) - I like this name, for me it just doesn't 'feel' right, but it's a nice name, and pretty timeless too i think.
Stanley (Stan) - How is it harsh? I actually think the opposite, that it sounds a little soft and sweet. Stanley is one of my top contenders for my baby boy. It's an old man name, but not becoming too trendy or popular like Wilfred, Albert, Arthur etc, and Stan is a nice nickname.
Timothy (Tim) I have the same problem, I love Timothy but DH hates it, and says 'Tim, nice but dim' whenever I mention it. I think he has a point though, Timothy is a great name, but Tim is a crap nickname, and theres nothing else you could nickname a Timothy.

MinorRSole · 27/06/2018 23:42

So many votes for Daniel and I have an odd reaction to the name, really dislike it.

All the others are fine, George fits well although I immediately thought Christopher when I read William and Jospeh (love Kit as a nickname too as suggested upthread)

Winchester13 · 27/06/2018 23:48

Lucas or George

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/06/2018 06:08

Daniel

Or Kit, Tom, or Sam

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 28/06/2018 09:39

I tried asking a friend yesterday,
"Pick a boy's name to go with the names William and Joseph" and she immediately said,
"Freddie".
Now that's under-used.

LoveInTokyo · 28/06/2018 09:52

Really?

I feel like practically everyone I know who has had a baby boy in the last couple of years has called him Freddie!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 28/06/2018 09:55
Grin
knowledgeofnone · 28/06/2018 09:57

As soon as I saw your other two names I immediately though "I'm going to vote Henry" and then it wasn't on your list

MiniAlphaBravo · 28/06/2018 09:57

I’ve met a few albert’s/albie’s and then there’s the alfie’s and Archie’s as well... Bertie is so cute though!

I don’t think Freddie is underused at all, have heard it a lot as well. But I do like it.

I like Daniel best with your other names.

You obviously aren’t sure about some of these names based on your comments so get rid of them!

WatermelonGlitter · 28/06/2018 09:59

I would definitely go for Albie, goes best with William and Joseph.

Bytheseabythesea · 28/06/2018 10:01

Daniel - never met one I didn't like, and it's not terribly popular at the moment.

The others are either incredibly popular or a bit meh

Floralnomad · 28/06/2018 10:02

I’d start a new list and go with either Benjamin , Sebastian , or Harvey which all go better with your existing names .

LoveInTokyo · 28/06/2018 10:04

Harvey is dreadfully naff, sorry! All of OP's choices are miles better than Harvey.

Benjamin is lovely though.
