How many Matthews?

Hey,

Just that really, how many Matthews do you know? And is it too boring? I think it's such a lovely name and we find it hard to agree on boys names (we have two dds).

Other names on my list:

Max
Sean
Simon
Michael
Owen

I adore Thomas/Tom but cant have it. I also can't have, but love, Joseph and Benjamin.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
bruffin · 22/06/2018 08:09

There were 3 in ds 22 primary class, very popular then, not sure about now

TimesNewRoman · 22/06/2018 08:15

I hardly know any. Great name.

Flamingosnbears · 22/06/2018 08:17

Matthew is such a lovely name, we have one in my children's school that I know of other than that none.

MariaMadita · 22/06/2018 08:57

I only know one child named Matthew. (He's probably around 6?)

It's a great name imo. And it isn't that popular nowadays... (names.darkgreener.com/#matthew)

Great name. Grin

twilightcafe · 22/06/2018 08:59

I have one. Rarely come across another Matthew.

BertrandRussell · 22/06/2018 09:02

There are around 1000 Matthews a year since 2013 and falling. Out of 3000000 baby boys. So not many at all.

lottiegarbanzo · 22/06/2018 09:04

Very few children, I think I have come across one.

It was very popular for a generation who are now in their late 30s. Not since then I think. Other names I would include in the same 'not yet re-popularised' cohort are Michael and Simon (also Stephen and Paul).

FairfaxAikman · 22/06/2018 09:05

Love it.

I'd say it (and Michael) were last popular about 30 years ago. But it's an underused classic to me - everyone knows how to spell it and it works for both high court judge/shelf stacker (ie its universal).

AutumnGlitterBall · 22/06/2018 09:08

I have one! Nearly two years old. I know about five grown ups but no other little ones.

anotherpersona · 22/06/2018 09:16

Know a few, all school age
Nephew
DS's cousin in wider family
1 in DS's class
2 in DS's sport squad
1 at DS's other sport club

WisestIsShe · 22/06/2018 09:19

Mine is 16 and had always been the only one in his class.

JadziaSnax · 22/06/2018 09:22

DS is Matthew, he's 12 and he was the only one in his primary school class.

17caterpillars1mouse · 22/06/2018 11:42

I know 2. One is 2 and the other is 5

kelper · 22/06/2018 11:44

Theres 3 Matthews and a Mathew in DS Yr5.
My cousin is called Matthew, but he's 36 so probably doesn't count ;)

spiderlight · 22/06/2018 12:37

There's one at my DS's school, who's 10, and the only other one I know is in his late teens.

AuntieUrsula · 22/06/2018 12:49

I know one - he's 12.

Paranoixia · 22/06/2018 13:44

I know one who is in year 7. Lovely boy.

Beebiesandcheebies · 22/06/2018 14:00

I have a Matthew in class 1

foxtiger · 22/06/2018 14:10

I love Matthew and would use it like a shot (even now, 20 years after I actually had children) but DH didn't like it that much. The youngest one I personally know must be about 14 now, but I don't think it sounds dated at all - it's a classic.

KirstenRaymonde · 22/06/2018 14:13

I know a bajillion Matthews my age or about (I’m 30) but none that are children.

piglet81 · 22/06/2018 14:17

I have one (aged 3) and have only encountered two or three small Matthews. Great name IMO Wink

WellTidy · 22/06/2018 14:20

None in Ds’ whole school!

Gizlotsmum · 22/06/2018 14:21

My DS is 6 and the only one in his year. There are 2 others in his school
