Boys named Finn

I'm having a disagreement with boyfriend about how common the name Finn actually is - he seems to think it is really common and this is a reason to discount it.

This is the only name both of us quite like other than Leo which we can't use as it would sound a bit ridiculous paired with very near aged cousin Theo. (also too many Leo's about I think)

How many Finns do you know? I've met 2 in my life ever. Are there really loads of Baby Finns being popped out in 2018?

Any other boy name suggestions welcome, surname isn't 100% settled but will begin with either V or A.

I dont know any Finns in real life, think I have vaguely recalled some celeb babies being named it but cant remember who. I think it's a lovely name Smile

MikeUniformMike · 19/06/2018 12:14

Finn is a lovely name but it and Finley are very popular. I think it's a naughty boy's name. I like Leo too. Not keen on Theo and dislike Theodore.

spiderlight · 19/06/2018 12:18

I love the name Finn and would have used it if BIL/SIl hadn't got in first! I know one Finn (our nephew, now 18), and one Finley (about 12). There are none that I know of in DS's primary school so I don't think it's humumgously popular.

Fivelittleduckies · 19/06/2018 12:18

I know of 3ish (Finley, Fynn and Flyn) but it is a nice name.

If you personally don’t know anyone by that name then i would still go with it

Oddsocksforeveryone · 19/06/2018 12:18

I know 1 Finn ( with a cousin named Leo) and 1 Flynn.

ShesSoUnusual · 19/06/2018 12:23

I know 1 Finn. I squeezed him out of my fanjo in 2006. Smile

bobstersmum · 19/06/2018 12:24

I like the name and as its a star wars character most boys would love it too!

nellly · 19/06/2018 12:42

I know one, my nephew aged 7

ThenCameTheFools · 19/06/2018 12:46

Leo/Fin(lay)/Theo were all very popular about 10 years ago. I'd imagine there to be classes with one of each if not more, say, in first year secondary school, or perhaps higher.

Actually, Finlay probably 14-15 thinking about it. dd is 15 this year and everyone I knew (seemed like) having a boy that year had a Finlay/Finn.

BroTim · 19/06/2018 12:50

I know a lot of Fionns but it’s because I live in Ireland, you could go with Fionnbharr and shorten it to Fionn?

BikeRunSki · 19/06/2018 12:51

I know 2 Finns, who are both about 15, and 5 or 6 Finlays/Finleys who are 9-12. Also an 8 year old Flynn.

MatildaLovesBooks · 19/06/2018 13:47

Finn is very popular. I know at least 7 of them. IMO, it’s a very plain name and the popularity just adds to the boringness.

sonnyboo · 19/06/2018 16:30

Overused and dull imo.

And a Finn is also a person from Finland.

starkid · 19/06/2018 16:39

Leo is top 15 and Finn top 100 (but only just) names in England+Wales in 2016, if that helps at all.

I think I prefer Finn to Leo, but they're both quite nice.

sonnyboo · 19/06/2018 17:06

But if you add Finley and Finlay, the name would probably be top 10!

GreenMeerkat · 19/06/2018 17:09

I know of 2

mintich · 19/06/2018 17:10

I know one Finn, (and countless Leos!)

TheHobbitMum · 19/06/2018 17:14

When we called DS1 (Findley) there wasn't any Fins around but now there are quite a few although there are a few Leo's too. DS1 has left school and has chosen the nickname Nif Hmm

AgentCooper · 19/06/2018 17:16

I know three, plus a Flynn and a Finlay. They're all lovely boys but I do find it a wee bit overdone now (sorry).

jigster01 · 19/06/2018 17:19

We have a finlay (fin) don't know any others ..19yrs old

magicfrog · 19/06/2018 17:20

I know of 5 under 4 but I still think it's a lovely name. If you like it, use it!

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 19/06/2018 17:21

Finbar

Stormwhale · 19/06/2018 17:23

I know two Finns, both short for Finley. Both are quiet sweet boys.

RavenLG · 19/06/2018 17:23

I know 1 that was popped out in 2018 .. from posts on here it seems popular

cornishmumtobe · 19/06/2018 17:24
