Help us pick from out top three!

We've managed to narrow it down to these three but baby's due in a week and we still can't decide for the life of us.

  • Sunshine
  • Symphony
  • Seawillow

I know they're not MN Approved names but hoping some people on here will have similar taste.

We already have a Honeybee and a Starling.

Are these for racehorses? Seabiscuit was quite famous at one time.

TomaytoTomarto · 10/06/2018 23:07

OP, if the sunshine doesn't last, Solstice Storm would be glorious! Solstice Sunbeam if it does! :D

And Sol is a lovely nn.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 10/06/2018 23:08

TomaytoTomarto I think the majority of us are thankful we never had you as a parent and as such weren’t saddled with such a burden at the very start of our lives.

Not wanting to abuse your child through your right to name them isn’t narrow minded, it’s sanity.

TomaytoTomarto · 10/06/2018 23:12

Oh Choc, our children have choices - they can change their names if they want to.

Found this story about Seawillow.

It’s growing on me.

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 10/06/2018 23:22

Symphony nn Syn

WeEatTheYearAway · 10/06/2018 23:26

Choc, if you actually read my posts you'll see my children do have choices.

WhatToDo, if you've run out actual issues to be angry about I could give you a list, or you could like read the news or something maybe

Also that's an amazing backstory Jammy

Seawillow is beautiful!

Chocmallows · 10/06/2018 23:45

Tomayto and Weeat I think you misunderstood me. I am saying it's great that the children on the thread have choice of regular names too.

TomaytoTomarto · 10/06/2018 23:48

I do like Seawillow to look at, but my concern with it is that it doesn't flow like a three-syllable name should - you have to pause after 'Sea' and stress the first syllable in a way I am not loving! Unlike Honeybee, which just flows beautifully. Unless I am saying it wrong? Plus I am rooting for Solstice! Grin

I knew a Coral when I was a teen. She wore it well.

TomaytoTomarto · 10/06/2018 23:54

Thanks, Choc. P.S. You can call me Tom! Wink Grin

WeEatTheYearAway · 10/06/2018 23:54

Ah, sorry for being snappy then Choc

@TomaytoTomarto

Very well said! You have more patience with these narrow minded top 10 sameys than I have! 😂 I give up.. They're hopeless when it comes to non mainstream names... And convinced that all kids are born to be bullies, especially of kids with less common names. So ridiculous, can't help but laugh!

jeanzbeanz · 10/06/2018 23:59

I think Symphony is cute for a girl :) and I don't think it's too unusual either - for a girl at least.
Not at all keen on Seawillow tbh.
Orion is nice for a boy.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 11/06/2018 00:03

let me know when it's running and we'll all back it in the 4.20 at York.

BewareOfDragons · 11/06/2018 00:06

Willow might be a better option...?

That way a different first initial, rather than two daughter's with 'S'.

And no 'Sunny' and 'Honey' rhyming.

Marcipex · 11/06/2018 00:10

Seawillow

Marcipex · 11/06/2018 00:13

Solstice is fab.

MyKingdomForBrie · 11/06/2018 00:13

I like solstice, sol or solly is a nickname for Solomon too and I don’t see that much difference. If you look at the origins of a lot of names they’re often a bit crazy!

Language evolves as do naming trends. Popular names from 100, 50, even 10 years ago are now seen as awful/‘saddling’ a child. I think kids these days are mostly unphased by unusual names until their parents nasty/narrow minded comments start filtering through.

Marcipex · 11/06/2018 00:27

Not Willow for a boy tho. That's awful, I know a boy called Willow. Sad.

KilledByHerOwnCardigan · 11/06/2018 00:47

Symphony can at least shorten to Sam.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 11/06/2018 04:50

WhatToDo, if you've run out actual issues to be angry about I could give you a list, or you could like read the news or something maybe

OP/WeEatTheYearAway If you don’t want to hear them, don’t start a thread asking for opinions. There are lots of issues to be angry about, and child abuse is certainly one of them.

Unusual names are fine, you don’t have to pick names in the top ten. There are thousands of acceptable unusual names that would not inflict such a burden on your child as the ones mentioned here.

So why a few of you appear to think it’s either top ten or this set of ridiculous names I have absolutely no idea. There is a middle ground, you know. Use it. Your children will definitely thank you for it.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 11/06/2018 07:18

cosmoa there are approximately one hundred people on this thread urging OP not to use awful names for the sake of the child, including two teachers, and yet you are convinced that you and tomayto are correct? Okaaaay then Hmm

WeEatTheYearAway · 11/06/2018 08:06

What to do, accusing me of child abuse based purely on my children's names isn't an opinion, it's taking the piss
