We've managed to narrow it down to these three but baby's due in a week and we still can't decide for the life of us.

  • Sunshine
  • Symphony
  • Seawillow

I know they're not MN Approved names but hoping some people on here will have similar taste.

We already have a Honeybee and a Starling.

I’m usually pretty cool with unusual names but Seawillow and Symphony are awful. And certainly not for a boy.

Of the three, Sunshine for a girl.

bobstersmum · 10/06/2018 13:47

People are very rude! Op the names aren't up my street but they're not my children! I do however prefer them to some of the more modern hybrid names!

LyndaLaHughes · 10/06/2018 13:54

I disagree that people are being rude. They are just telling the truth.I've seen first hand repeatedly what happens to children with "unusual" names. It's selfish to inflict horrendous choices on a child who has to suffer the hilarity and p-taking about their name. Its no coincidence that children with "out there" names change it as soon as possible. Any parent thinking of their child will not subject them to ridicule. Really hope this thread is a joke.

Chocmallows · 10/06/2018 15:07

Unusual names are very "outing". Your children will always be known in a group after day one, because they will be remembered by name. Or called "the one with a funny name".

If confident they will ride it out, enjoy it. If not they will run up to the person registering and say I prefer to be Jack or Amy.

I remember an 11 year old crying when I said first rather than second name. If they later have choice I see less of an issue, but I wouldn't have put my DC in that position.

ScoobyGangMember · 10/06/2018 15:08

Yeah, right.

PixelAteMe · 10/06/2018 15:12

I read Seawillow as Swallow, which fits with Starling.

I just hope your surname isn’t Lovelace Wink
(Only fellow oldies will get the reference)

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 10/06/2018 15:16

This has got to be a joke. No sane person would actually name their child any of these names, and even more so nobody in their right mind would be so cruel as to name a little boy Sunshine, Seawillow or Symphony.

You’re naming children, not pets.

I don’t think you’re responsible enough to be a parent if you can’t even take naming them seriously.

lynmilne65 · 10/06/2018 15:34

Good grief 😖

TacoLover · 10/06/2018 15:38

God those are tacky. You might think I'm being harsh but people are going to be a million times harsher to your poor kids.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/06/2018 15:43

1 Where did op say she was sane.
2.with a child called Honeybee The worrying about outthere names ship sailed long ago

Littlechocola · 10/06/2018 15:45

I know of two honeybee babies. Becoming quite popular!

WowserBowser · 10/06/2018 15:46

I like them all. Apart from Seawillow. I don't even know what one of them is.

Littlechocola · 10/06/2018 15:47

Forgot to add that I quite like symphony although I do now have bittersweet symphony in my head!

YoucancallmeVal · 10/06/2018 15:52

Is this for a baby human?

3boysNeedABiggerKitchen · 10/06/2018 15:54

Seawillow Smile

Sophronia · 10/06/2018 15:59

Symphony is the best of a bad bunch.

Cosmoa · 10/06/2018 16:01

My DD's middle names are Soraya Sunshine! Grin

LoveInTokyo · 10/06/2018 16:02

These names are awful enough for a girl but would be even worse for a boy. FFS, OP.

Chocmallows · 10/06/2018 16:04

Actually as middle names sound nice.
Cosmoa I particularly like your combination as middle names, but Soraya is lovely anyhow.

satsumasunrise · 10/06/2018 16:09

They're humans not paints. Please have a rethink.

WeEatTheYearAway · 10/06/2018 16:22

Soraya is a gorgeous name Cosmoa

I think we're going to go with Seawillow Smile

To the pp that ask, it's a type of coral that can be made into gorgeous beads and jewellery.
I think if we do use Seawillow I think I'll look into wether they're responsibly sourced and maybe get baby a little bracelet of seawillow beads.

Sunshine of the three...

Seawillow isn't great, she will probably just use Willow as she gets older though so no massive harm done.

FizzyGreenWater · 10/06/2018 16:40

Seawillow is also one of those words which looks a lot better written down than said!

You say words differently when they're used as a name.

Just saying Seawillow in conversation, you'd automatically split it into the two words it actually is, when talking about the plant. Sea willow.

As a name... she'll be Seewulo.

Say it a few times as if you're calling her in from the garden. Or from the bottom of the stairs.

It doesn't work.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/06/2018 16:43

Awful names, especially for a boy. I can’t believe you’d seriously do that to someone you’re supposed to love.

ZebraKid71 · 10/06/2018 16:52

I'd go for seawillow, I actually really like it and as willow is very popular right now it doesn't seem as unusual for use as a name as the other two. However, I would not use it for a boy. Regardless of your own thoughts on gender (which I also feel quite strongly about) I think it is really important to remember that you are not naming a child that will live in isolation within your own family unit, they will have to go out into society and live with that name - as far from the ideal as that is, it's the truth and I would urge you to consider the reality for your child and the response and experiences they will have in life as a result of it. I understand your own reasoning but it isn't about you, it's about your child.
