DH and I are really struggling with a name for our second DC due any day now. We both like Tristan but neither of us are completely convinced by it. I like that it is a traditional but uncommon name, and DH likes that it is Celtic.

My main concern at the moment is that if you google Tristan it comes up with loads of pages about Tristan Thompson and the Kardashians! I hate the thought of that being people's first thought when they hear the name.

What do you think about it?

Tbh I think it sounds a bit wet.

& Isolde 😂

ScreamingValenta · 02/06/2018 17:12

Isolde here as well.

DarlingNikita · 02/06/2018 17:12

James Herriot.

I mean that as a good thing! I loved the books and had a massive childish crush on Tristan.

DartmoorDoughnut · 02/06/2018 17:12

Isolde

I have a relative called Tristan. He's a lovely thoughtful and funny boy. I like it

ItsalmostSummer · 02/06/2018 17:14

I think of the neighbour’s son on “George and Mildred” (Tristram) but I now know a boy called Tristan, and the name is growing on me. I’ve not heard it for a while.

BroomstickOfLove · 02/06/2018 17:15

Isolde and James Herriot.

Highhorse1981 · 02/06/2018 17:16

I think must have strong American links

fannyfelcher · 02/06/2018 17:17

Tristan makes me think of a 54 year old Christian computer engineer that still lives at home with his mum, Doris. The highlight of his week is "Bovril, biscuit and board game" night when him and his mum have a hot cup of bovril while playing Scrabble (with a big fat dictionary). Then before bed they have a custard cream each with their warm milk. But they must be in bed by 9.30pm. Birthday weeks allows for an upgrade to jaffa cakes, at Xmas it may be a mince pie between the 12th dec and 2nd jan.

UrsulaPandress · 02/06/2018 17:17

Shandy. I know that was Tristram but it was my first thought.

Jessbow · 02/06/2018 17:18

He's a small red headed, be-spectacled little boy that goes to public school,

LesLavandes · 02/06/2018 17:18

& Isolde

PinkCloudDweller · 02/06/2018 17:25

The Spanish word for sad is Triste - so I think Tristan is a bit of a sad name 😟

SpeckledDot · 02/06/2018 17:25

Gilmore girls

MrsCD67 · 02/06/2018 17:27

Tristan Thompson and Khloe Kardashian (sorry!)

yawning801 · 02/06/2018 17:27

Plays Robert Preston in Corrie. Not a great actor.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 02/06/2018 17:28

It makes me think of a Tristan who was in my primary school class and who was colour blind. I don't know why I even remember that.

Yogagirl123 · 02/06/2018 17:28

I like it. Unusual and sounds classy to me.

DBoo · 02/06/2018 17:30

Kardashians.

TinyRick · 02/06/2018 17:30

Tristan from Stardust

TeaAndNoSympathy · 02/06/2018 17:30

Wet public school boy.

luxurybiscuit · 02/06/2018 17:31

Gorgeous boy I knew from school! Very posh, sexy and handsome, now very successful. I literally know nothing about the Kardashians and have never seen their programme so wouldn't know about that connection mentioned upthread.

Also having know the one posh Tristan wouldn't have had the American thing as I've never met an American Tristan. So it is all about context I suppose, but wouldn't worry about some Z list nobody that will be forgotten in 5 minutes if that's what is holding you back!

Wifelife · 02/06/2018 17:31

Stardust!

Roomba · 02/06/2018 17:33

I think of my childhood friend's brother who was and is a lovely guy (in his 40s now).
